Working out before, during, and after school was soon a must for the wrestlers. In order to be a good wrestling team the wrestlers stayed until 6:30 P.M. almost every night, lifted weights, and counted calories. Because they worked so hard, four wrestlers made it into the Hall of Fame. This was an outstanding individual accomplishment. Tim Thomas and Bill McKinsey advanced to the sectional tournament in which each placed fourth. T. Thomas MVP B. McKinsey 40 take-downs N. Michaels 21 reverses D. Nagel 12 escapes B. Competition began in Eureka with the Scholastic Showdown in October. Later both the varsity and junior varsity teams fared well at the 24 team Minonk Invitational. Mike Power was selected to the JV all-tournament team and Jennifer Jacobs and Lisa Cooney led the varsity with 17 and 16 toss-up answers respectively. Later tournament efforts at Strea- tor, Wenona, Kewanee Wethersfield, Chenoa and Mt. Pulaski did not yield trophies but some did excellent in individual efforts. Mike Power was again selected to Chenoa's All Tournament team. The year was culminated by a great team effort at the Midstate Conference tournament where, after losing to El Paso, the varsity team went on to win the consolation championship in an exciting match with Flanagan. A final tro- phy was garnered at the Roanoke tournament with Chris Eash being selected to the All Tour- nament team. The last match of the year pitted Chenoa's varsity against arch-rival Lexington in one on one competition in front of the Lexington Kiwanis Club with Chenoa winning an exciting match to cap a good year. Jennifer Jacobs and Lisa Cooney made the Scholastic Bowl Hall of Fame, each answering over 30 toss-up ques- tions. Coach: Mr. Andrew Cooney Compliments of SANITARY CLEANERS Fairbuiy, Illinois 27
