Yes, It ' s All for the Best! During the year, Chenango Valley witnessed many new fads, fashions, trends, and issues. The latest fash¬ ion for girls was gauchos (opposite page, upper left), while for boys it was vested suits (opposite page, right center). Ornately decorated vans (opposite page, upper right), and disco music became popular. At the same time, hard rock groups such as ' Kiss, ’ ’ (opposite page, lower left) Arrowsmith, ” and Orleans” remained prominent. C.B. radios, men ' s jewelry, and female hitchhikers became in vogue. School spirit began to return to C. V. with the efforts of the revived Pep Club (opposite page, lower right). On the national level, the big issue was the presiden¬ tial election. Three great debates were held between Gerald Ford and his challenger Jimmy Carter (left cen¬ ter). On the local level, Interstate ”88 (upper right) remained a controversial issue, while Port Crane School (lower left) was closed because of the decrease in stu¬ dent enrollments. College (lower right) became an uncertain undertaking for high school seniors, as tuition costs continued to increase. fifteen
