The Chenango Valley Football Warriors completed their first winning season since 1971 under their new head coach John Paske. With a record of 5 wins and 4 loses, the Warriors captured a second place finish in the Suburban Division of the Southern Tier Athletic Conference. This feat certainly was a team effort highlighted by the leadership and determination of the sixteen seniors. The J. V . Football Team missed being co-champi- ons of their division by one game. The feeling is that they had a good season of 4-4-1 . I .V. The 1975-1976 Chenango Valley Warrior basketball team consisted of one sophomore, eight juniors and only three seniors. Some of this season's highlights included excellent games against league powers North, Central, Norwich and Oneonta. In addition there were two fine overtime wins over S.V. as well as a one point thriller over C. C. Individual standout performances by underclassmen included Tim MacGregor's fine defensive games against S.V. , Rick Aiken's high scoring and strong rebounding games against North and Oneonta, Chuck Thorne's solid all-around efforts during the second half of the season, Chris Oswald's excellent game at Oneonta, and Sylvester McCray's second half heroics in the Central and S . V. games. Our three seniors proved valuable throughout the season. David Canale turned in solid ballhandling and defensive games, especially against Central and Oneonta. Dave Harvey showed strong rebounding at both ends of the floor and displayed hot shooting against Central, North, Norwich, and Oneonta. In addition, John Tar- bell contributed steadily improving play and all-around floor leadership especially against tough opponents, scoring in the twenties at least four times including 25 against Norwich. In conclusion, although this year's team most certainly didn't win all its games, anyone who saw these men in action saw solid hustling and exciting basketball throughout the season. E IORS START WINNING TRADITIO Few knowledgeable wrestling fans would contest the statement that the Warrior Wrestling Team is one of the top teams in STAC . The ten seniors on this year's team are passing on a successful heritage to Warrior Wrestling teams of the future. As freshmen, most of these seniors were on the varsity team and they only won one dual meet. In their sopho- more year they won four dual meets and as juniors they had a winning season - 8 wins and 7 losses. Their winning season this year, 11 wins and 4 losses, makes them the first Warrior Wrestling team to ever have two winning seasons in a row. They also have the distinction of being the first Chenango Valley Wrestling Team to beat Chenango Forks. Dave Parkhurst, Vic Kasmarick, Mike Lamb, Brian Whitford, Dave Meagher, Gary Grunder, Jim Mackel, Dave Dickstein, Glen Stiner and Chuck Guditis are the ten seniors who have started a WINNING TRADITION at Chenango Valley. The team placed second in the third annual Chenango Valley Wrestling Tournament with three individual champions, Dave Dickstein - 155 lbs, Glen Stiner - 167 lbs, and Chuck Guditis - 177 lbs. Vic Kasmarcik - 119 lbs, and Dave Meagher - 132 lbs placed second while Mike Lamb and Jim Hackel took a fourth place at 126 lbs and 145 lbs respectively. The JV Team wrestled their way to seven victories this year, making it their best season in the last five years. The fact that wrestling is taking hold at Chenango Valley is evidenced by the large turnout of talented young men. In addition to the dual meet victories, the team also won the second annual JV Invitational at CV with Mike Zachar, Jack Poodiack, John Fenwick, Marvin Williams, Norman Johnson and Marty Chiaramonte taking indi- vidual championships. 1 - N N3-. f J. EA TER DIVISION CHAMP The Warrior Varsity Baseball team captured the Eastern Division title, but lost to Ithaca in the STAC championship. After a fast start of three wins and no losses, the Warriors lost the next five in a row. Joe Mickel stopped the slide and began an eight game winning streak by beating Oneonta 5-1. The next eight wins carried the Warriors thru a tie for first place and for the Division Championship. Key factors in the Warrior Success this year were: Good pitching by Kris Brown, Joe Mickel and Dave Wertman, 300+ hitting by Ron O'Neil, Joe Mickel and Rick Ruffo as well as one of CV's best outfield's in Jim Sayer, Gary Lewis and Frank Gaffney.
