Gridiron Review VARSITY FOOTBALL: 1971 Warriors captured a full share of this year’s Eastern Division title with a fine 7-2 record. The team was led by STAC Player-of-the-Year James Kendrick’s powerful running. Jim led the league in total rushing yardage, scoring, and set a conference record with an unprecedented 40 points against Homer. Chenango Valley showed its normal potent offense with the passing of Rick Harrison and the versatility of Jim Kendrick. Defense came through when it had to and backed up th e offense by creating many turnovers. Coaches Costello, Ames, and Travis worked hard to make it a successful season. Jim Benko, Steve Taylor, Perry Kendrick, and Jim Kendrick received All-STAC honors. In final revenge in the game of the year, C. V. crushed Owego 48-0 under pressure for the championship. Return¬ ing lettermen assure a good nucleus for next year ' s team. JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL: J.V.s had a tough season with a 1-8 record. Bob Lalley and Mike Hall showed fine abil¬ ity throughout the season. Coaches Marble and Banks worked hard to instill a sense of competition in their players. FRESHMAN FOOTBALL: “A team — Defense was the name of the game for a 2-2-2 season. A team effort has al¬ lowed only four touchdowns in the last two years. Varsity Cross Country Coach McDaniel’s runners were 5-0 in dual meets this year, and won the Eastern Division Title of the STAC by defeating Catholic Central in a pressure- packed final meet. They were defeated in the East-West Championship by a strong Ithaca team. Tom Ryan led the team and placed high in many highly competitive meets.
