The team was led by STAC Player-of-the-Year James Kendrick’s powerful running. Jim led the league in total rushing yardage, scoring, and set a conference record with an unprecedented 40 points against Homer. Chenango Valley showed its normal potent offense with the passing of Rick Harrison and the versatility of Jim Kendrick. Defense came through when it had to and backed up th e offense by creating many turnovers. Coaches Costello, Ames, and Travis worked hard to make it a successful season. Jim Benko, Steve Taylor, Perry Kendrick, and Jim Kendrick received All-STAC honors. In final revenge in the game of the year, C. V. crushed Owego 48-0 under pressure for the championship. Return¬ ing lettermen assure a good nucleus for next year ' s team. JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL: J.V.s had a tough season with a 1-8 record. Bob Lalley and Mike Hall showed fine abil¬ ity throughout the season. Coaches Marble and Banks worked hard to instill a sense of competition in their players. FRESHMAN FOOTBALL: “A team — Defense was the name of the game for a 2-2-2 season. A team effort has al¬ lowed only four touchdowns in the last two years. Coach Sestak had success in teaching his team the fundamentals of football. “B” team — Posted a 1-1-1 record led by Coach Moyer. t ' V ‘ FOOTBALL: First roW: Rick y Betts, Vince Dickstein, Mike Bakay, Bill Pease, Mark LaClair, Matt Moulthrop. They were defeated in the East-West Championship by a strong Ithaca team. Tom Ryan led the team and placed high in many highly competitive meets. Many returning lettermen insure a successful season next year. First row: Hugh Reed, Steve Seeholzer, Bob McDaniel, Tom Ryan. Second row: John Brenner, Carl Grunder. Third row: Harry Pierdomenico, Mike McNally. CV Cagers Conquer East The varsity Warriors, overcoming a mid-season slump, were still strong enough to defeat CC in the final game of the season, finishing with a 15-3 sea¬ son, and thus necessitating a divisional play-off with CC. In the playoff game, CV, led by All-STAC player Marty Guy, the league’s high scorer, crushed the Crusaders with a famed CV pressure defense. The Warriors lost to a talented Ithaca team in a hard-fought championship game. Throughout the season, the Warriors showed a potent offense, led by Marty Guy, with strong support from Dave Hall, Jim Kendrick, and John Bowen. The “minute-men (Rick Harrison, Dave DeCastro, Bill Tarbell) proved that hustle was the name of the game on defense. Coach Bob McDaniel kept the Warriors from folding in mid-season, and spurred them on to the championship. Jim Kendrick with a driving lay-up. 20 Coach Weckel gives encouragement to his team. . . . And Again We Conquer Coach Bill Weckel once again came up with a highly spirited and talented JV team. The young Warriors won the East¬ ern division with an outstanding 17-1 record and then defeated North in the championship game for the STAC title. Chuck Bruet, Mike Hall, and Perry Kendrick led the team throughout the season and showed a great knack for breaking a game open. The highlight of the season came when the JV’s defeated the, at the time. Western Division leader UE on their home court. This game proved their total dominance of the league. Mike Hall takes an open jump shot. WLvf P«vi H 1 ' g ROUND! J.V. BASKETBALL: Kneeling: Dove Guy, Jon Edwards, Tim Miner. Sestack. 7th And 8th GRADE BASKETBALL: The 7th grade team finished the season with an 8-6 record, the 8th grade team with a 10-6 record. The team suf¬ fered through an 0-1 1 season under first-year varsity coach Gary Moyer. Gary Graham led the team in scoring and ended an excellent wrestling career at Chenango Valley. More school spirit wpuld undoubtedly help the wrestling team in the future. Coach Moyer hopes to install a more competitive wrestling program at CV in the years to come. Increased participation at the Junior High level promises more experienced grapplers to come. JUNIOR VARSITY WRESTLING: JV wrestlers, led by Coach Ed Banks, showed great spirit in their matches. Again, the lack of experience within the team proved disastrous. These young wrestlers will undoubtedly prove their value when they gain added experience and reach the varsity level. Coach Moyer gives Mark Sabin the “Key to Victory . VARSITY WRESTLING: Kneeling: Gary Graham, Mark Sabin, Mark Robinson. Although victories resulted from team effort, two players received special honors. Pitcher Marty Guy and outfielder Steve Medovich were named to the All-STAC second team at their re¬ spective positions. Many returning underclassmen assure a promising future for the team. JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL: Coach Weckel again displayed his special talent for winning championships as he led his team to the Eastern Division Crown with a 10-5 record. However, they lost to a strong U.E. club, 9-7, in the championship game. The team was led by the strong pitching of Dave Rigan, Ken Cook, and Mark Pickett. FRESHMAN BASEBALL: The ninth grade baseball team suffered their first losing season in several years when they fin¬ ished with a 5-7 record.
