Education effects the reconstruction of the observable, and drama effects the communication of the verbally inexpressible. In both areas an enlarged perspective is achieved by creating an experience which transcends the surface of life. The dramatist aims to draw his audience into a revealing experience by creative manipulation of audio-visual techniques. Educators instill in their students the perspective of history, the sensitive insight of literature, the logic of math, and the order of science, as tools to break the barriers of the commonplace. Fundamental to the success of each approach is the recipient's capacity to absorb the wealth being offered, the primary goal therefore, of the institutions of drama and education, is'to precipitate a state of readiness for a significant discovery. From the pensive atmosphere of a philosophical discussion to the light-hearted htunor of a musical come-dy, the phenomenon of mood represents this condition of receptiveness Deliberately staged or arising spontaneously from the interaction of men, the presence of the appropriate mood opens the path to a fulfilling exchange. In essence, the school and the theater are man's release from the limitations of his senses. 7. ,, 5 f' i ,z M1 A we 'W J wg- 1 , S E E 1, H- F. 1 ,Q .cya- J-9- .ff-,W A-EFF i if 17 HERBERT B- FOX MR. Like patrons of all scholastic performances, the board members contribute their ability and time towards educational excellence. These nine citizens are elected by the 40,000 inhabitants of Cheltenham Township and represent a wide range of interests, experiences and talents. Although she is not a member of the School Board, Mrs. Frances R. Link, the Coordinator of Secondary Education, is deeply involved in planning the educational policies and curriculum of the secondary school system. She feels that innovative planning is the key to education and has helped to develop the Independent Reading and the Humanities Seminar electives, CHS' newest courses. Mrs. Link sees in Cheltenham a reflection of the intellectual and creative needs of the high school student. Mrs. Frances Link attends School Board meetings to answer questions pertaining to secondary policies and curriculum. l The EL DELATOR staff engages Dr, Greene in an impromptu dialogue after his speech to the CHS student body.
