STUDENT COUNCIL Cl-lS's Student Council, directed by president Grier Oberholtzer and sponsor Miss Lois M. Gould, was especially active during I944-45. Permanent Council committees toolc charge oi Activity, Assembly, Bulletin Board, Safety, Home- room, Lost and Found, Property, and Lunchroom problems during the year, while specially formed committees worlced on such new proiects as strength- ening Cl-lS's club program, revising the Cheltenham handboolc, and directing a school-wide collection of clothes and toys tor needy families in Kentucky. Keeping abreast ot world problems. Council studied the Dumbarton Calcs Plan and demonstrated increased interest in furthering lntercultural Rela- tions. The War Council, headed by Elmer l-leinel, supervised all activities reflecting the influence oi the war on Cheltenham. Vice-President Eva Shipman, executive committee chairman and lnlomeroom-Proiect-Approver, as- cended 'ro the presidency of Student Council early in March when Grier entered the U. S. Coast Guard. Recording Secretary Joy Smith faithfully took notes on all the meetings and Corresponding Secretary Carolyn Alexander sent cards to students absent from school for several days. In the capable hands of Treasurer Matthew Mcllhenny were all financial matters.
