Look, mister, do you know who I am? lm Cheltenham High School and my students have kept that blue and while Minute-Man Flag flying in my hall all during the I944-45 year! In homeroom after homeroom IOOCK, of the students bought defense stamps every single week. And I don'+ like to brag, but you should see the lolal figures lor bond sales at Cheltenham! 'lhey're really impressive! And +hal's not alll My students dug down deep into their pockets 'ro swell my 'rolal contribution to Red Cross, War Chest, and other drives. They col- lected books, games, and magazines to help con- valescenl soldiers at Valley Forge Hospital pass the long hours. STUDENT COUNCIL Cl-lS's Student Council, directed by president Grier Oberholtzer and sponsor Miss Lois M. Gould, was especially active during I944-45. Permanent Council committees toolc charge oi Activity, Assembly, Bulletin Board, Safety, Home- room, Lost and Found, Property, and Lunchroom problems during the year, while specially formed committees worlced on such new proiects as strength- ening Cl-lS's club program, revising the Cheltenham handboolc, and directing a school-wide collection of clothes and toys tor needy families in Kentucky. Keeping abreast ot world problems. Council studied the Dumbarton Calcs Plan and demonstrated increased interest in furthering lntercultural Rela- tions. The War Council, headed by Elmer l-leinel, supervised all activities reflecting the influence oi the war on Cheltenham. Vice-President Eva Shipman, executive committee chairman and lnlomeroom-Proiect-Approver, as- cended 'ro the presidency of Student Council early in March when Grier entered the U. S. Coast Guard. Recording Secretary Joy Smith faithfully took notes on all the meetings and Corresponding Secretary Carolyn Alexander sent cards to students absent from school for several days. In the capable hands of Treasurer Matthew Mcllhenny were all financial matters. President Grier Oberholtzerg Sponsor Miss Gouldg Vice Presi- dent Evo Shipman conducting a committee meetingg Secretary Joy Smith, Treasurer M. Mcllhenney, and Secretary C.
