Text from Pages 1 - 154 of the 1988 volume: “
I In the beginning we were just con¬ fused freshman, roaming throught the halls, looking for a friend. As time pro¬ gressed so did we. Sophomore year, trial friendships began. When junior year came around, we knew exactly who our friends were. Now we are se¬ niors looking out at the world. We know it wiil be hard to leave the friends we ' ve known for so long, but true friends are like diamonds - forever strong! TABLE OF CONTENTS 3 4 Crazy Eights Crazy Eights” uniquely describes our class at Chelsea High. We ' re the class of ' 88, and we ' ve had some crazy things happen to us in the past four years, As sophomores we came close to stealing the Almost Anything Goes” competition from that year ' s senior class - an unheard of coup! We are the smallest class in the history of CHS, yet the class with the greatest expectations - we ' re the first class to need 100 credits to graduate! We ' re also the class that struggled to get ad¬ visors- for the yearbook, student coun¬ cil, Honor Society, but we Crazy Eighters” were just crazy enough to tackle some tough jobs on our own, We certainly proved that even with the cards stacked against us, we could play a winning hand! 5 Chelsea Pride is found in the beat of the city, the feeling that can be experienced only by living in Chelsea. Chelsea Pride has taught the Class of ' 88 values that v e ' ve taken into the class¬ room, onto the playing fields, into our homes and into our hearts. It has taught us that winning isn ' t as important as playing a fair game, and that top grades aren ' t as im¬ portant as doing your best, Chel¬ sea Pride has been our growing experience, but it doesn ' t end at graduation. When the cards are stacked high against us, Chelsea Pride helps us find that ace up our sleeves. Chelsea Pride will follow us into our future. 6 CLASS . xlT ttSm f] OF ' 1988 10 mad . , . dazed . . , maniacal. . . rambled , . . demented . . . crack brained . . . idiotic . . . frenzied . . . delirious. . . moonstruck . . . giddy . . , deranged . . . wild . . . out of this world . . . odd , . . fanatical. . . eccentric . . , frantic . . . twisted . . . wasted , . . Our parents have sup¬ ported us as we have traveled down the pathways of our lives; they ' ve guided us and led us toward the right turns. Now, however, as we travel down that rocky road, we are faced with a decision - WHAT ' S NEXT? 12 CARDS DECISIONS, DECISIONS RIGHT Now the time has come to move on out of good old Chelsea High. We ' ve shared our dreams together, but now the time has come to make those dreams come true! We may never get an¬ other chance like this so let ' s play that trump card! CHELSEA HIGH UFE • ' i - 14 15 Ms. Gould, I’m innocent!!!! 16 Each class always has one very special faculty member who gives freely of her time and efforts to help the class. The Class of 1988 has been privileged to have Mrs. Patricia Doherty Mahoney as our class advisor. Freshman, sophomore, and junior years were difficult times for the class, and Mrs. Mahoney struggled through them with us, sometimes hauling the load single-handedly. Though there were times when she felt like giving up on the Class of 1988, she didn ' t because she saw the potential the class had. That potential began to shine through as we approached senior year. Mrs. Mahoney, we are forever grateful for your sticking by us, and we appreciate all you have done. All we can say is two small words with tremendous meaning, THANK YOU! FACULTY To the class of IPSS; Congratulations! Your family, friends, teachers, and administrators of Chelsea High School are proud of your accomplishments. The very best to every one of you. The club has been involved in many activities including field trips to the Museum of Science and the Planetarium, participation in our annu¬ al Science Fair, and a whale watching expedition. The group has meetings twice a month in room 318 held by President Carolyn Agostini and Vice-president Syl¬ via Motto. Suggestions come from our ad¬ visor, Mr. Slater and the members of the club. The meetings are concluded by treasurer Bruce Imbacuan collecting dues and secretary Edna Gonzales taking at¬ tendance. The club has had an enjoyable and successful school year. Youths Eager to Serve is what the YES represents. Created and organized three years ago by Mr. Renzi, YES Club is steadily growing to be one of the most popular school activities at Chelsea High School. A YES Club member contributes at least one hour a month to voluntary com¬ munity service. Such service has included: serving Thanksgiving dinner to the elderly, having a food drive to collect cans of food for the needy, helping ready the Carey House, visiting and spending time at elderly homes, and helping the Council on Aging prepare for a bazaar. Not only are the YES Club members willing to give up a little bit of time each month, but they are also a group of caring individuals, leaders of the school, and are striving to help others. YES CLUB R-L Advisor Mr. ' Renzi, Sec. Caroiyn Agostini, VP Maria Carreno, Treas. Lana Marino, Janet Quintero, Edna Gonzales, Pres. Irene Carreno, Linda DiVasta, Blanca Carreno, Jessica Anaya, and Steven Kwong. S.A.D.D. is an organization that stands for Students Against Drunk Driving. Since its beginning a few years ago, the member¬ ship at Chelsea High School has increased significantly. The club tries to increase stu¬ dent awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol by placing posters through¬ out the school, sponsoring essay and poster contests, selling SADD buttons, handing out SADD bumper stickers and running a strong campaign against drunk¬ en driving around prom time. Peer leader have also gone into other schools around the city to discuss drug and alcohol relat¬ ed issues as well as problems of peer pres¬ sure with the junior high and elementary students. The council has pulled quite a few hat tricks this year like the Homecoming Dance, which transformed the gym into a night club and pulled in over 300 tickets. The group adopted a needy family at Christmas and delivered presents and good cheer to them. Also, the students met and communicated with Russian stu¬ dents via television satellite in an ex¬ change program. The 87-88 student council members have been the miracle workers of CHS with a continuous flow of surprises up their sleeves. Jobs for Boy State Graduates is a private, non-profit school-to-work transition pro¬ gram that provides career exploration and employability skills training to seniors. This program is in twenty-six high schools throughout the state and presently pro¬ vides service to over 1,400 students. The program has been a part of Chelsea High School since November of 1984. Seniors participating in the program are taught job-readiness skills which include resume preparation, telephone techniques, inter¬ viewing techniques, application prepara¬ tion, career exploration and job survival techniques. In addition to skill classes, the students also attend career oriented field trips, compete in a statewide career de¬ velopment conference, attend civic and leadership awareness seminars and inter¬ view potential employers regarding cur¬ rent job information. Janet Hurton and Anna Triolo kept the school up to date with the Devil ' s Delivery this past year, while Yona Skiddell enlight¬ ened us with her thought for the day . Every morning the three girls met in the main office to read the days events, in¬ form us of important meetings or any ac¬ tivities. Janet would always begin with a Good morning, everyone , and Yona gave here words of wisdom just before Anna signed off wishing everyone a nice day.
