CHELSEA HIGH SCHOOL CLASS 1986 Take Time To Listen ™ 4 ' | ' • : 4 . As we leave Chelsea High, there are many people, such as our teachers and administrators, that we must thank for their understanding and devotion to the students. There is one person, though, whom this class was very fortunate to have as a class advisor. As the saying goes, “Behind every great class, there is a GREAT class advisor.” She is Mrs. Mary Smith, and no one person was as devoted and dedicated to this class as she was. Our class cannot thank her enough for all she has done, having been our advisor for four years. She has stood by us and helped us through all the rough times. For all you have done for us, Mrs. Smith, we dedicate this book to you to express our sincerity. Thank you for making our years at Chel¬ sea High both successful and memorable ones. He was very dedicated to his work, and he always pushed his students to work harder to reach their fullest potential. We, as the Class of 1986, had the opportunity to have him as a teacher during his last years at Chelsea High and wish to extend our many thanks and best wishes to him. 28 Chelsea High School is not only an institute for academics, but it’s a place for students to learn and grow by being able to get involved and participate in the school clubs and activities of¬ fered. These opportunities help students to experience different challenges that are not offered in a classroom setting. People get to know others on a more social and personal level which makes school more enjoyable, especial¬ ly when teachers get involved in such things as Spirit Day or Western Day. Anyone can go home and watch T.V. but many chose to get involved, and here are the results. . . . ACTIVITIES I’LL BE THERE - JUNIOR PROM The Chelsea High School Junior Prom was held on May 24, 1985, at the ritzy and elegant Danvers Port Yacht Club. For most of the Juniors, it was probably their first prom. You could see this by the excitement and anticipation showing through their eyes. Approaching the entrance, their footsteps were short and shy, but by the end of the night, they were wild with dance!! Except for some complications with the band, the night was a great success, and all that were a part of it will remember it for years to come. WESTERN DAY Marco, just back from the cattle drive! I’m the shy type, Ma am Where’s Silver when I need er? Hold on to your hats, “pardners”! .. % 4 i DAY OF SPOOKS AND SURPRISES! This was no ordinary day at Chelsea High School. October 31, was a day full of spooks and surprises. You didn’t know what to expect when turning the corners of the halls. Would you be attacked by a lion or would you be made to laugh by some juggling clowns? Would you be bitten by a vampire or would you be licked by a dog? The costumes were creative and varied, and this day proved to be a great class success with the most costumed students in CHS history! First Place- Dreana DeAngelis It’s a boy!! 34 Second Place- Ricardo Crespo The three clownsters” Let s play in the mud! On guard! She’s my date. Meow . . . Ruff. . . Meow Meow . . . Ruff Ruff. . . CHALLENGE CUP The club is designed for academic over-achievers to express themselves outside of the classroom environment. Knowledge of a broad spectrum of material, along with immediate recall and speed are necessary for members to compete successfully. In the past two years the club has made great strides to improve itself, and has seen much better game results. Competi¬ tion is keen, even during practices as players compete to win a chance to represent the high school in games vs. area high schools. The club has also expanded its activities to include itself in regional competition and even na¬ tional competition. 45 Creating a yearbook is no easy task. There are pictures to be taken, layouts to be designed, copy to be written and typed, and deadlines to be met. To their credit, the yearbook staff did a magnificent job in putting together the 1986 Beacon. The staff worked before, during, and after school. Members also came to school during the Christmas and February vacations. Congratulations to the staff for a job well done. CLARK Dinner Dance The Dinner Dance, held on January 10, was considered a smashing success by all in attendance. Before the dance was held, much work was done in dec¬ orating the gym, and in making all the necessary arrangements which helped to create the pleasant evening. Pic¬ tured are Tom Bruce and Chris Mucci sanding beneath the beautiful archway that Chris helped construct. Also, de- servng a great deal of credit and ap¬ preciation were faculty members Mary Smith and Phyllis Nazzaro, also pic¬ tured under the arch. Further thanks and praise go to Mary Guerriero and to the many students who worked hard to provide this night to remember. The music was delightful, the food was delicious, and a great time was had by all. FOOTBALL 1 Coach Antyony CarderalU, Co-Capt. Didiej jufmauv C rony i Agostini. . - ; - ' V P Z . They unfortunately had a los¬ ing season, with their record being 1-6. The team, made up of mostly freshmen, contained a few upperclassmen. The Seniors tried their best to leave a mark by their performance. Among them were Izzy Agostini, Roberto Santiago, and John Sepluveda. As Head Coach Anthony Ba- varo said, “Robert Laffey is just superb in the indoor shot-put. His record is 49’ 10” while losing ONLY one dual meet. Another great performer is our Co-capt, Izzy Agostini, in the 50 -yard dash and the 300-yard dash.” Honor¬ able mentions went to John Sepluveda, as he proved himself many times at the 600-yard run. tr ' •• r s m ] t i 53 MALDEN 23 11 PEABODY 66 18 REVERE 68 6 ARLINGTON 72 29 EVERETT 45 32 SOMERVILLE 53 27 MEDFORD 57 - ALL-LEAGUE Kneeling, l-r: Giovanni Sepluveda, Robert Santiago, Izzy Agostini. Two of the more successful teams, however, were the Soccer and Basketball squads. Both teams had fantastic sea¬ sons as both qualified for post-season play. In addition to their fine play on the field and on the court, the mem¬ bers of both squads are to be compli¬ mented for the way they conducted themselves off the playing areas. For their fine seasons, and for the way they represented Chelsea Pride, we congratulate both squads. 66 What does it take to be a great class? It takes spirit, ambition, cooperation and determination. Most classes try to show that they have been successful but few ever actually prove it. Our class, the Class of 1986, was different. Whether we were freshmen, sopho¬ mores, juniors, or seniors, everyone knew who we were. We have been recognized for our achievements and trends. We were famous for the “Pen¬ ny War”, “Adopt a Family”, our re¬ cord in the “Anything Goes Competi¬ tion”, and “Free”. Our years at Chelsea High have been ones filled with special moments and triumphs, but nothing is comparable to our Senior Year. “1986” was a year of pride, joy, and never dying memo¬ ries. Senior Year was our moment to glow, to be the upper classmen, and to show our superiority. The next few pages are the pictures you’ve been waiting for! May I present the “Class of 1986”! They were enlightening and exciting, Not to mention, a whole lot of fun! We were lively, fiery, and dynamic, Giving a new meaning to CHS spirit. We set records and started traditions, Anything less-we would not hear it. A long road we have traveled together, Meeting new challenges every day. But such great things cannot last forever; Ours has ended in May. As we close this chapter of our lives, Our hearts burn with sorrow. Yet, the wonderful memories live on and on, As we look forward to tomorrow .... -Anne Zecha It took four years, But we’ve finally done it. The bond we’ve built Will be forever treasured. So many parties — So many dances — Those times together Remain so very special. Since our freshman year, We’ve been everything from friends to enemies. We’ve grown so much .... We’ve grown together. We’ve cared together in these four years; We’ve watched each other go through good times and bad. Though we rarely say it, These three words mean so much — “I Love You.” Not it’s time to go our separate ways. Our good-byes will soon be said. These years we’ve shared together will be memories .... Memories are strange things. Sometimes they can become very vague, Though in our hearts They will always shine. So don’t try to remember “us,” The special moments will always remain. Goodbye Chelsea High, Thanks for everything. Don’t worry about us. We’ll all make it big, And someday soon You’ll hear from us again. The Class Of 1986 -Anonymous 132
