The club meets often during competi¬ tions reviewing vast amounts of trivial and not so trivial material. Do you smell some¬ thing burning? This years competing mem¬ bers include: Matilda Andrade, Robert Mar- gossian, Wayne McGill, Brad Promisel, and Scott Winer. Non-com¬ peting members of the club include: Nancy Le¬ vine, Donna Lea, and Veronica Richards. PHOTOGRAPHY 45 Assembling a Yearbook is no easy matter. It requires a lot of thought, a lot of time, and a lot of effort. The 1981 Beacon Staff did, indeed, provide the thought, time, and effort that resulted in this book. Although, it was a grueling job, the staff members worked re¬ lentlessly, and they even managed to enjoy them¬ selves at times. Though the staff could not agree on many things, they were all in accord that the job accomplished was an experience. Sitting, L-R: Joanne Pitts, Robin Bellomo, Nancy Burke, and Renne Belanger. I J e Ep WlM The CHS German Club formed in Septem¬ ber to foster interest in the German lan¬ guage, its culture and its people. Although the club was not sanctioned by the adminis¬ tration, its officers and members generously donated their time to several meetings and an evening outing to an Oktoberfest celebra¬ tion at Lincoln-Sudbury High School. The club has also enjoyed the generosity of the German Consulate in Boston for the fine films on Germany which were loaned free-of- charge. The club also sports its insignia on an authentic flag of the West German Re¬ public. The Consulate has also finished the club with a dozen multi-colored posters of the Germ an landscape. The German Club will cap the year with a final outing to a German restaurant in the Boston area to sample German cuisine. The elect¬ ed members of the council work with the administration, faculty, Parent Teachers As¬ sociation, and the School Committee on var¬ ious school and community activities. The Student Council also functions as the main source of spirit promotion within Chel¬ sea High. Throughout the year we have sponsored many dances, such as the Thanksgiving Home Coming Dance and the Valentine Day Dance along with many sports rallies. To end a successful year the Student Council plans a roller skating even¬ ing and a Parent-Student dance. DEVIL’S DELIVERY Wake up all you sleeping beauties of CHS — It’s Marla and Glen with today’s Devil’s Delivery! As always we are here to inform the student body of past, present and future happenings. If you’ve lis¬ tened carefully (which we know you have) you would have found that the daily announcements were “al¬ most” perfect. We’d like to wish the Class of “81” the very best of luck. Election to the organization is based on high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character. The installation of officers and induction of new members was held in December with a buffet dinner attended by students, parents, and the School Committee. Soon after the annual Secret Santa and Toy Drive began. In the Spring the society sponsored a basketball game and the annual Blood Drive in conjunction with the Massachusetts General Hospital. All profits from the activities go to the Honor Society Scholarship Fund. 58 SOCIETY Sitting, L-R: Kathy Vcator, Senior Vice President; Lisa Fantasia, President. Standing, L-R: Lynne Carbone, secretary; Janet Luciano, Junior Vice President; Marilyn Danon, adviser; and Drenda Carroll, Treasurer. The Chelsea High School Guidance Department arranged a “College and Career School Night” held in the John F. Ridge Memorial Auditorium. Admission Counselors from over sixty (60) schools were present to answer questions concerning ap¬ plication and admission policies, major fields of study being offered, and most importantly, finan¬ cial aid and work study programs available at their respective schools. This affords all concerned an opportunity to talk directly with the College and Career School Re¬ presentatives and hear their offerings first hand. : Ahdmoc. The team worked hard and came out shining as we downed our first opponents in a pre-season game. Unfortunately, when the season came around, we had lost many of our big players to injuries. As the season progressed, the team grew smaller. A high morale was kept despite our losses. It seemed very difficult to push ourselves on and on and still lose. Even though things seemed dismal at times, our team never gave up and worked twice as hard to keep its composure and pride. We all knew we had one last chance to turn our season around by defeating the Thanksgiving rival. We weren’t going to let this chance slip by. The team pulled together and worked like it never had before, despite the snowy conditions. It all paid off as we came from behind to down Everett in an unforgettable game, 34-26. 67 The 1980 Cross Country teams, both boys and girls, were greatly improved squads. They placed in the first five in almost every meet. Their times were competi¬ tive and in most cases a second or two off the winning time. The boys were captained by William Paradis and David Jeglinski, while the girls captain was Drenda Carroll. First Row, Left to Right. We would like to congratulate them on their fine efforts in winning the GBL title. We especially want to congratulate Craig Walker who has been one of the greatest players ever to play for CHS. In 1981 he led the team to its first ever GBL Title, broke the city’s scoring record, and led the state in game point average. We will all remember February 20, 1981, the day the Super¬ star’s number, “21”, was retired. This and the winning of the title have made this year a most unforgettable one. 74 C.H.S. Due to his unselfish efforts, we have been transformed from a confused and gan¬ gly group of freshmen to a spirited and uni¬ fied group of seniors. Always there with a smile or a joke, a much needed piece of advice, or just an open ear, he has never been too, busy to talk to us. Mr. Cardarelli’s everlasting sense of humor has especially made these last four years unforgettable. We, the Class of 81, would like to thank you, Mr. Cardarelli, for all that you have done for us.
