qf lt cfiebea TvMic Library %9 (Broadway In my mind, there has never been a suitable good-by to a friend, or a feeling, or a way of life. So I questioned the breeze And the newly grown grasses of spring In search of the proper words of farewell to the three. But the breeze just blew on, And the grasses grew taller, Until I suddenly knew what I had known All along, That I was wasting time on good-bys for the past When there was work to be done for greeting tomorrow. Tommy Paris he City Under Bridge We, the class of 1979, have spent the past four years of our lives attending Chelsea High School. The experience has been rewarding for most, cher¬ ished by some, enduring for all. It is our intention in this yearbook to convey the feeling of importance that we have attributed to these years and to relay the spirit with which we have faced our high school edu¬ cation. This is not, however, a yearbook dedicated solely to the events within the red brick building on Crescent Avenue; rather, it is a history of our lives in Chelsea, the city itself. That momentous day in May, 1979, as we don our caps and gowns and file out of Chelsea Stadium, supposedly marks our entrance into adulthood. We shall face the day proudly, se¬ cure in the knowledge that our years at Chelsea High have adequately pre¬ pared us for the lives that we shall then face. The 5ites 2 t Chelsea is a city steeped in tradi¬ tion. Throughout the city there are many old but lovely buildings. There are also numerous fountains and monuments dedicated to people and events from Chelsea’s history. Chelsea is also a city con¬ stantly growing and improving. Pictured are members of the sen¬ ior class at sites typifying the city’s blend of old and new. 3 The Class 6 The Class of 79 is one that per¬ sonifies the phrase Chelsea Pride.” It is a group of individ¬ uals who have blended their unique personalities into a class with a common cause--to bring credit to themselves, their city, and their school. • ( V, vHxmrJ) 7 9 ne Activities 10 Attending CHS has afforded us the opportunity to participate in many rewarding and enjoyable endeav¬ ors. Pictured are members of the “Class of 79” participating in activities such as the Junior Prom, Dress-up Day, and Carnation Day. Also depicted are the officers of our junior year as well as members of the Yearbook staff. n 14 When not in school or busy working, the students at CHS find dif¬ ferent places to spend their leisure time. Many a happy time is spent with good friends at the locations pictured here. 15 -JW-r.-if The various clubs and organizations of Chelsea High School have provided the students with many outlets for their spirit and enthusiasm. Through participation in these clubs, we have learned the spirit of cooperation, and have found that working together is rewarding both for the things that it teaches us, and for the memories that it leaves us. We are only at the edge Of the wilderness; What lies ahead, beneath the trees, Is a mystery to us all. We shall choose our separate paths At this moment in our lives, And each shall take his own; And if, by chance, we find Those roads to cross, We may rejoice in the moment And share the future As we have the past. Remember all the fun Think I’ll miss that study hall; that and everyone.” Only now I feel the loss of security that has gone Who will tell me where to go or what is going on No one left to show me how or teil me what to be No one here to ask me now, no one here but me. Karp, Department Head The English Department at C.H.S. is . trying to do what similar departments all over the country are attempting - we want to send our students off into the world at the end of their senior year with an ability to communicate well, to listen with understanding, and to read with appreciation. The seniors will be a mea¬ sure of our success, for to the extent that they succeed, we have succeeded; if they fail, that is to a degree our failure too. The skills that we have given them are building blocks to further under¬ standing. Let us hope they use those building blocks well. M.J.K.
