The 1974 team won the school ' s first G. B. L. Cham¬ pionship in years and all of their 17 meets. With scorers Bobby Goss, Eddie Richard, Tony Rosati, Jerry Dion, and Captain Jack Richard returning, plus the addition of Mike Cefalo, Coach J. Barry Dwyer thought the team had a good shot at repeating as league champs. The team performed up to all expectations, again remaining undefeated while successfully defending it’s league title. But they weren ' t about to rest on their laurels. In the biggest race of their lives, the Chelsea Team came through and finished first in the Massachusetts State Division IV Championship. It was a great victory for the team, the school, and especially for Coach Dwyer, who can look forward to continue success, since another great team is returning for next year. 112 A Look At The Team • - .■ - W ' K ' W V ' - W v M ESk. 11 v ihlWil - . j r •w 1 mA • 4 I w ' r ’ ■ Manager Jackie Chapnik LEFT TO RIGHT: FIRST ROW: Frank Zecha, Tom Brasil, Joe Goss, Tim Goss, Gregg Depatto, Mike Blair, Scott Katzman. What do you mean I didn ' t come in first? My girdle is Killing me! It ' s tough being a superstar. 114 On your WK Track is man ' s oldest and most natural form of sport. No special stategies or expensive equipment is needed, for it is a basic one to one competition. And after all, that is what sport is all about. The greatly improved 1975 edition of the CHS.outdoor track team compiled a fine . 500 record of 4-4 in the tough Greater Boston League, with victories over Sommerville, Arlington, Medford and arch-rival Everett. These successes can be attributed not only to team members themselves, who ran through practices daily but also to coaches Anthony Bavaro and J. Barry Dwyer, who led the team through their paces. Seniors Scott Cole, Carlos Diaz, Ralph Eaves, Mike Cefalo and Jack Richard will cherish good memories and will leave a team which is sure to be a strong contender for many years to come. v 1 IM vt fi LfP Y ' -. r ’ m A „ . r . f jmm HI, % c . Al¬ though picked by the oddsmakers to finish as also rans, Coach Bevere and the team had other ideas; they had their new spirit o f confidence, or The Big C asthey called it. Time after time the underdogs from Chelsea upset heavily £ favored opponents, and W the crowds at Merit i Park swelled as The k Big C grew. Bysea- A son ' s end, hundreds of screaming fans watched k inamaze- Hk tnent as Chelsea won the G.B.L. Champ- ionship, and then still more fans i traveled to Waltham to witness Chelsea sports history as the Big C came through again and, almost un¬ believably, Chelsea High was the Eastern Mas¬ sachusetts State Champs! Most of the starting line-up from the 1975 team was returning, and there was the addition of about five new first-line players. The team was competitive in every game, and most were decided in the final quarter. The great improvement in the team was obvious, and each home game was played before a packed house. If this same inprovements are continued, it won ' t be long before Chelsea is a force to be reckoned with in G. B. L. Basketball. 123 The Chelsea High girls basketball team did not produce a victory this season, but the team was certainly not lacking in talent. Led by our outstanding senior athletes, the girls provided the fans with an exciting brand of basketball. Captain Barbara Cameron had an excellent season on offense and defense. Carol Roche was the team ' s leading rebounder. Debbie Washington proved explosive on offence, scoring nineteen points versus Somerville. Guard Cheryl Thompson showed poise and remarkable dribbling talent, while Viola Benton demonstrated quickly and fine shooting ability. Consistent Anne Marie Casucci rounds out the multi-talented group of senior girls. Coach Pike can be proud of the girls basketball team. They had spirit, determination, and most important of all, a good attitude. These qualities are the keys to success in sports. Chelsea High doesn ' t have a new field house to prac¬ tice in, and often enters a meet outnumbered by the opposition by as many as 40 runners. But new field houses and numbers don ' t make good indoor track teams; spirit and determination do. And, in 1975-76, Chelsea was not short on either of these. This years team earn¬ ed a 7-4 record, which marked the 4th consecutive year over .500, a feat few teams from any school can claim. 128 m’sd % Jr Wi ' -1 I SgL Mw 1 | SMKEt:; m i H, if pH i • fWfil 1 1 1 The 1975-76 Chelsea High Hockey team turned what was to be ex¬ pected to be a mediocre season into a pleasant surprise. Although Chelsea entered most games as the underdog, and was plagued through¬ out the season by k ey injuries, their 10-5-5 record was the best in Chelsea history. In fact, they missed qualifying for the state tourney by the barest of margins--one goal. All scholastic goaltender. Jay Palladino, led Chelsea ' s defense to the lowest goals against average in the G.B. L. This success led to the naming Coach Yanetti as East¬ ern Mass. All Scholastic Coach. Red Alert!. CHS is currently under attack by an alien from out of this world. He has invaded us from planet Kricula” and is thriving on our chaos and state of mass confusion. Our atmosphere, in fact, seems to have bred an offspring of this Kriculan and matters have gotten worse. A reward is being offered by the administration for possibilities of dis- truction of these creatures. However, it does look like CHS will be under this siege for a while longer.
