The council started out the school year by sponsoring a Welcoming Dance for the freshmen. The theme for the dance, which was held in the high school lunchroom, was Forty-Niner. All fresh- men and new students who attended came dressed in pioneer costumes. The affirma- tive defended the position that the federal govern- ment should pass a law that would encourage em- ployers to hire people according to their merit, rather than being influenced by the race, creed, or color of the applicant. Chehalis debaters participated in debates with Centralia, Olympia, St. Martins, and Acosta.
