I would say that your generation stands at the threshold of the most critical period in all ages of civilization. Other generations have been summoned to speak for a nation, a continent, a hemisphere, yours must speak for a planet. Previous generations have been called upon to build a country, survive a depression and win a war. Yours is being asked to save a civilization. We cannot accomplish this by following the crowd, by being average, by being mediocre. No one becomes skilled by accident. A man must have training and experience. To earn a living, to discharge the responsibilities of citizenship and to enioy the leisure which increased productivity promises, more education will be necessary for almost everyone in the years that lie ahead. I dare each of you to secure all of the education possible, to develop a willingness to work, to let your imagination carry you far afield, not to be afraid to be different and risk being called a square because you wish to do right by your fellow-men.
