Bihr. I 'Y if l W Wi Cheektowaga Central Basketball Warriors enjoyed a most successful season taking the Divi- sion lll crown for the second consecutive year. The season opened on our court against the Alden Bulldogs. Our Warriors outscored Alden from the field 40-36 but lost the game at the foul line as Alden sank 27 to our l7. Our team then beat J. F. K. 37-35 in a hard fought battle on their court. The next two games were inter- divisional contests, the first was lost to Mary- vale but the team bounced back to beat Clarence. In the Maryvale game Bill Boltz scored 30 points and pulled down 20 rebounds for two home game records. The team then scored its third victory over Depew 59 to 47. The next game was another interdivisional contest at Maryvale in which the team lost 69 to 5l. The team then started a nine game winning streak with a 58 to 45 victory over Holland. The Warriors then beat North Collins 50 to 25. A 52 94 to 4l victory was scored over Ed oullI3id win in a row. The team's next victor was ov r I if it Alden who was in first place at the time, f L here on in Cheektowaga Central remained n- top. Our Warriors played another close ga e beating J.F.K. 48 to 47. ln our last interdivisional-f' game, we beat Clarence 51 to 47. Cheektowaga then scored decisive victories over Depew, Hol- land, and North Collins. The final game of t e season was played at Eden where we bowed toil' the Raiders 42 to 35. Four Seniors will not return next year, they are Bill Boltz, Jim Elsaesser, Joe Nikiel and Ed Foy. The team's co-captains were seniors Bill Boltz and Jim Elsaesser, The team's great suc- cess was due largely to the efforts of Mr. Moyce, the team coach, who did a fine job training the boys for their last basketball season in Divi- sion lll. The team had ci fair season with five wins and seven losses. This 1962 season was the first time the baseball team used the newly completed baseball diamond and field.
