Which brings to mind something which l read many years ago and provided foocl for thought over the years. The world is either better or worse each day as a result of your work and influence. lf the world is benefited by the service you render, you are bound to behthere is no power that can rob you of the good which comes from the good you do, likewise, none that can protect you from the harm which comes from the harm you do. The world, your world, is not measured by the reach of your arm or the horizon of your vision but the never ceasing influence of your thoughts and acts. These are always making ripples in the surface of time and these ripples are eternally spreading beyond your most distant expectations. ' Each of us in his own way, daily, has an effect upon the people with whom we come in contact. One's influence is rarely felt within a single day but as days build upon days the people with whom we' associate are richer or poorer because of our actions, Earl J. Boggan Dr. Earl J. Boggan District Principal This year, the i963 Centorial is dedi- cated to Mr. Donald Moyce, As Physical Education teacher of Cheektowaga Cen- tral, Mr. Moyce has given much of his time and effort to serving the students and the school. Your Board of Education is a representative group of persons elected by the voters to administer the educational program for the school district. They are a legislative body that enjoy broad powers to determine school policy within the frame work established by the New York State Constitu- tion and the Legislature. The Board of Education is responsible for providing educational facilities, staffing and equipment which will conform with the minimum standards as established by the state of New York. Further, the Board of Education has the right to exceed the minimum requirements and most boards of education do this. Your board of Education is no exception in this respect. Members of the Board of Education serve without financial remunera- tion. Their only compensation is the knowledge that they are serving their community in providing educational opportunity for the youth and adults. -+---A-f ' f ,f Library Department 'X ' i LIBRARIAN: Mrs. J. Hyde. Assistant: Mrs. M. Kansky. if D A C ffl L Kei C., K 'sf-.. The library is a service institution. lts function is to provide a desirable and well balanced collection of books and materials fitted for school use. The efficiency of the library depends upon its organization for use by the pupils and teachers. A well organized and well administered school library provides an ideal situation for exploration and wider horizons. Pupil appreciation grows with its use and they come to realize that it is a place where the opportunity for self-education never ends and is only limited by the individual's persistent use. The school recognizes recreational reading as a worthwhile leisure occupation and looks to the library to provide both the opportunity for and the materials of pleasurable experiences. lt is the aim of the library to create an atmosphere favorable to the growth of the reading habit and by personal guidance to stimulate an interest in reading and research, Reading is the foundation of one's life- long education. i,.,,..,..,.. Class The growth and development of the Class of i963 can be compared to that of a tree. We began our arduous struggle in high school as young saplings in the autumn of l959. At our first stage as freshmen at Pine Hill High School, we were unsteady and often times were swayed by the force of stronger elements. To support us were our advisors Mrs. Hammond, Mrs. Giardina, Mr. Distler, and Mrs. Mernan. As president we chose Sharon Young, as vice-president, Sandra Hoos, as secretary, Jo Anne Gervase, and as treasurer, Daniel Urshel. To strengthen us finan- cially, we held a skating party at the Arena Roller Rink in the spring of l96O. As sophomores we were transplanted into the modern and colorful surroundings of Cheek- towaga Central High School. The new environ- ment added stimulus to our growth. lt is humorous to recall that first day in the new school. We all were in a dilemma when we attempted to find our rooms. With the assistance of guides we even- tually arrived in our assigned rooms. A Get Acquainted Dance was held. This brought in an unexpected amount of proceeds to the gratifica- tion of all. Chuckling to ourselves we remember learning new dance steps while dancing to the music of Dino and the Bobcats. Leading us were Patricia Becker, as president, Sharon Young, as vice-president, Carol Schultz, as secretary, and Paul Schnobrick, as treasurer. Serving as our able advisors were Mrs. Wisher, Mrs. Giardina, Mrs. Silverstein, Mr. Hartnett, and Mr. Rudewicz. Definite signs of maturity were displayed as we became juniors. Now some of us were qualified for acceptance into the Senior National Honor Society, a strong branch of our high-school life. The autumn inductees were: Robert Baum- gartner, Patricia Bolero, Diane Crigler, Sharon Daut, George Di Pirro, Zoriana Jacyszyn, Eliza- beth Matuszewski, Jyoce Meinke, Barbara Muel- ler, Marjorie Mueller, Sharon Piotrowski, Donald Storm, Raymond Vorwerk, Karen Youells, Sharon Young, and Lorraine Zielinski. In the spring Patricia Becker, Kathleen Mania, and Margaret - nn 7 ' 'A' ' M TT T 'f 'TT History Schmahl were inducted. To raise funds for our Junior Prom we sponsored a Harvest Hop. ln early spring we were thrilled at receiving our class rings. Quickly the year passed and with it came our unforgetable Junior Prom. The theme was Fantasy of the Sea and Theresa Jeziorow- ski was selected as Queen and Paul Springer was selected as King. The decorations did not seem to be mere paper, but came alive under the soft lights and music of Sonny Michaels and his band. Not to be forgotten were our reliable advisers Mrs, McBride, Miss Scirto, Mrs. Wisher, Mrs. Vogan, and Mr. Hartnett. Our officers were Paul Schnobrick, Jo Anne Gervase, Carol Schultz, and Patricia Bolero serving as president, vice- president, secretary and treasurer respectively. All too soon our senior year appeared, and in the beginning of the year we eagerly chose Paul Schnobrick again as president, Barbara Mueller, as vice-president, Sharon Piotrowski, as secretary, and Patricia Bolero, as treasurer. Our school spirit was increased immensely by the campaign for Student Council officers and this aided the attendance at our football games. There was some difficulty in determining what our fund- raising project would be, but with the faithful and enthusiastic help of our advisors Miss Sopata, Mrs. Peard, Mr, Mahoney, and Mr. Becker, we finally decided to increase the amount of our class dues and to hold a dance in the fall. It is to them our gratitude is given for a rewarding year. ln the spring our glittering Senior Ball and splen- did Senior Dinner were held. These evenings will always be cherished in our hearts. Class Day ar- rived and with it our long awaited graduation. As we received our diplomas, for a split second the events of the past four years seemed to pass before us. Some were joyful and some sorrowful, but all to be remembered. Now with our roots set in a firm foundation, we the Seniors, having been nurtured toward maturity with fruitful ideas, will take with us a sincere faith in the future and a hope for success for a prosperous life. 39 ..-MTM . ...........,,,,,,,, Senior SUSANNE ALEXANDER G.A.A. This year the Sr. Student Council initiated a more democratic way of electing officers. Can- didates campaigned for one successive week. lt was climaxed by a campaign speech before the student body at the election assembly. Voting machines highlighted the student body's partici- pation in the election when each student assumed his role as student citizen and cast his ballot. Everyone agreed that this year's election had set the stage for all-out school spirit. The i962-63 council attempted several basic and unique projects. Our first big challenge was to create trust in the student body by organizing and presenting a non-teacher assembly in which students were encouraged to discuss openly their views and possible solutions, concerning student problems. The Council's recommendation for a non-proctored lunch period was wholeheartedly supported by the students. The council also assumed the responsibility of welcoming and acquainting new students to our school and of managing the cloakroom for all school activities. The Student Council's philosophy of encour- aging scholarship was demonstrated by its dona- tion to the Reukauf Memorial Scholarship fund and also by its contribution to the lnternational Fellowship. These latter funds were raised by the pizza sale. The Council is enrolled in the National and New York State Association of Student Councils. It is the Council's hope that these accom- plishments will establish a solid foundation for future Council's. . ,,.- a-fs., Senior Student Council R .. C.-.x.f 1 ,SWR ff' FIRST ROW: K. Nowacki, K. The officers and the members were installed: Helen Nikiel, Presidentg Betty Budzich, Vice-Presidentg Donna Denz, Sec- retary: and Timothy Hoelscher, Treasurer. Our money making activity was the maqa- zine campaign. With some of the proceeds a for- eign exchange student proqram was sponsored and a bus for Junior High Students was paid for to some of the away basketball games. This year we initiated two new services. Every morning two of our members collected the buff cards from the homeroom teachers. Also, the Junior Student Council and the Senior Student Council set up a monitoring system in the halls. Appropriate dress for school was again stressed, culminating with Red and White Day. The Christmas Dance was a festive occa- sion. And, the teachers were entertained at a Christmas Punch Party. ln the spring there was a Splash Party at which everyone had a hilarious time. All in all the Junior Student Council had a successful and rewarding year under the capable leadership of their officers and Miss M. Roan. 5... Junior Student Council N., A NN' K FIRST ROW: B. Our purpose is to report all news events which tran- spire in our school and are of interest to the students as well as special attractions. In reporting fairly and impar tially, the students who are members of our stall valuable knowledge and experience in such varied as human relations, publicity, printing, and art work. we help to familiarize students with the workings of a newspaper. We feel that the year 1962-1963 has been an espe- cially fruitful one. Our year is highlighted mainly by the purchase of a new printing machine last June, This ma- chine makes it possible for us to render the best possible editions of our paper and permits varied art work both in decorations and photography. Our staff also had a dance this year on November l6. The staff also planned visits to either the Courier Express or Buffalo Evening News or St. Bonaventures College to augment the general knowledge of our staff concerning newspaper work. We feel that we have had a most enjoyable year this year and a very productive one. We are looking for an even better year next year, as we constantly try to do our best to contribute to the school life of the students by giving them an accurate and interesting school newspaper. The main objectives of the Girls' Athletic Association are to promote interest in Athletic participation and to inspire good sportsmanship. ln achieving these objectives the G.A.A., under the capable leadership of its officers and advisor Mrs. Rizzo, provided a wide variety of activities. Every girl had the opportunity to participate in numerous sports activities ranging from soccer, basketball and tumbling to the main high- light of the year-the water ballet. Not all the activities were centered around sports. ln order to raise money for its scholarship fund and other purposes, the G.A.A. sold candy, held a dance and a sportsnight. The year was climaxed with the annual senior Mother and Daughter Banquet and the picnic at Mirror Lake. This year proved to be a prosperous and enjoyable one for the G.A.A. and the girls who participated in its events. were YVVV M.- -4 Junior-Senior G.A.A. Freshmon - Sophomore G.A.A 0 Jr. High G.A.A. Miss Fogarty and the Junior High Girls' Athletic Association have succeeded again this year in providing invigorating sports for the enjoy- ment and gratification of the girls. Lorraine Wagner was chosen- as president, Glenda Lease as Vice President, Susan Benz as Secretary, and Janice Burzynski as Treasurer. The girls journeyed to Williamsville High School for a volleyball game. They played an energetic game and tried their best, but unfortunately they lost. Their activities during the i962-I963 school year consisted of various sports such as basketball, volleyball, and tumbling on Wednesdays and Thursdays, swimming on Mondays and Fridays, and a picnic in the spring. As in the past, their efforts helped to make the water ballet an enor- mous success. Having gained the invaluable experience as members of the Junior High G.A.A., the girls will be well qualified and eager for membership in the Senior G.A.A. I- Jr. High G.A.A.
