Q p,, Q A E I c Ru . lCii E -J fs fi,eL 5 an A,Qg ,J 3 g ef' , In ' I Q - , ,Qi ,A , Z A y I Xe':i '- X 4 --f 'iQ , l Pr n ,V' 1 i' H I M r - - ug, J ' ' X, K M ' ' V ' nn' ' f ' n By Jesse Ray Waller The 1945 Checotah Wildcats under the guidance of Coach Guy Gardner, and Assistant Coach Herman Emerson, started the season at Bixby September 14 The Wildcats were light and inexperienced and were defeated by a score of 19-O September 20 the Wildcats played the St Joseph Cardinals at the local park The Wildcats, still light but improved in experience defeated the Card- inals 53-6 September 28, the Wildcats were defeated by a much heavier and more ex- perienced team from Wagoner by a score of 20-6 The Wagoner team won the con- ference this year being scored on only once during the conference play October 5, the Wildcats played the Sallisaw Black Diamonds The two teams were almost evenly matched in weight and experience The Wildcats de feated th Black Diamonds 21 7 October 12, the Wildcats defeated the Westville Yellow Jackets 20 6 October 19 the Wildcats defeated the Stilwell Indians 26 O and the next week were defeated by the Stigler Panthers last year's conference champions, 24 O November 9, the Wildcats played the strong Tahlequah Tigers on their home field in a drizzling rain and were defeated 19 14 November 16 the Wildcats defeated their long time rivals the Eufaula Ironheads by a record breaking score of 41 6 Of the 1945 Squad eight were Seniors who have played their lest game for Checotah High These Seniors played excellent football all season and estab lished a good record for themselves Their record is as follows Leon Terry lst Team All Conference End touchdowns Leo Simon Honorable Mention Beck touchdowns Ray Waller 2nd Team All Conference Back touchdowns Dick Wood Quarter Back touchdowns Bob Reed Left End touchdown Lloyd Jernigan Left End touchdown Charles Boyd Left Tackle All in all the Wildcats enjoyed a successful season placing fourth in the Conference Much credit is due Coach Gardner who worked long and hard developing the Wildcats into the team they were an 547' al 1 4 B X ' Av , , '1 m, ' fw N f.
