RECOGNITION As the 1964 graduates reminisce and think of former days, we recall the smiles and tears of high school years, a teacher's undying effort to prepare us for the future, a symbol of faithfulness and eagerness to us allg the friendships we made and will always treasure, even though their faces may grow dim through the years, the excitement and enthusiasm of a pep rally, the victory and defeat of all the ball games, the noisy halls and confusion of changing classes, having to be in three or four different places during the break for so -called free period D3 dying of hunger as we impatiently waited at the end of the long lunch line, the silence of the library and the willingness of our librarian to assist us, the supposedly silence of the rooms of learning, the ten hour school days as a result of before and after school practicesg the final days of strenuous testingg and at last, graduation! With the pride of accomplishment yet the realization of our mistakes, we the seniors of Chattanooga Valley High completed four wonderful fulfilling, and sen- timental years. In 1960 we entered high school as timid and silly freshmen. It was a year of adjustment to a new and mysterious way of life, with regular crushes on the Friday night heroes for the girls, while the boys remained the bench warmers for upperclassmen, and for all the recognition from upperclassmen, and for all the thrill and honor of being a part of Chattanooga Valley High School. Upon becoming sophomores we were no longer excused because we didn't know the rules. In time we learned to settle down, to take an interest in club work, and to long to be an upperclassman. In our junior year we took on larger responsibilities. We worked very hard selling magazines to finance a junior-Senior Banquet. The many happy laborious hours of preparation for it will never be forgotten. And at last--we were seniors. We reluctantly yet hopefully looked forward to graduation night. Along with our memories we took other valuable treasures: class rings, school jackets, yearbooks, diplomas, and a feeling of accomplish- ment. Our restless carefree days are gone, but in our mind's eye they will ever linger. Although this part of our life is over, and has been replaced by another, we havecarried with us a treasure chest of memories. 8
