The hours after school . . . play . . . de'Votion to sports The ex- pression of the students . fearful sophomores . . . buttering juniors . . . know-it-all seniors . . . ever changing . . . ever new . . . yet ever the same . . . always familiar . . . the twist . . . laughter in the lunchroom . . . 'galmostn getting five . . . numerous congregations under the clock after homeroom . . . the deep pride in City the first day of school . . . the seniors, not knowing where to go in the new building, yet acting as if they had lived there for three years . . . the sophomores being ufooledn by the . . . the elevator passes and twenty- five cent locker rentals . . . Can you still remember it? That first day . . . so long Of course you can . . . none of us forget! painting signs . . . practicing for the . . . decorating for the Prom . . . endless band practice . . . cheering the team on . . . the satisfaction of knowing you did something extra . . . that something 7 5 that wasnt' demanded . . . that you didnt have to do, but that made C.H.S. a better place because you did it . . . ' of study . . . Student l three and in that moment you know . . . whether you sang the lead . . . lost the game . . . or even if you worked behind the scenes where everybody didnit see you . . . didn't notice . . . in that moment you know that it was worth it all . . . worth the supperless nights . . . the midnight hours the chilling winds on the field . . . the butterflies on opening night . . . ife is the pride in the accom- plishments ,of those we've known for short years . . . the golden mo- ments of the Miss CHS. scene . .. the endless talk of college . . . the wonderful friendships made . . . the waiting . . . participation . . . surprises . . . But words are so empty . . . - you canit d e s crib e student life . . . you have to live it. As you step out of C.H.S. you can never for- get he r

H95 ff W, . 'Gr '- 4 Q? 'we IJ X156 T h a t foreboding word that b r i n g s th e crushing reality of high school life in about unsuspecting stu- dents . . . study . . . During exams . . . any place . . . anywhere . . . any time . . . from the noise of the biology lab to the sunny coziness of the library balcony . . . from the hasty notes scratched down on every available sheet of paper to the last minute exertion of term papers yet to be finished . . . from the early morning hours until the midnight oil is put to use . . . the well known secret of success at C.H.S. is to put lingering thoughts away . . . open the text . and learn . . . And when it's all over . . . when those hours of sleep, and loss of energy catch up . . . the bliss of collapsing . . . totally and completely . . . and waking up to find yourself in the middle of next semester . . . yes . . . another semester had passed . . . never to be relived . . . those nights when the books stayed open until the entire neighborhood was in bed . . . those nights when the agony of homework seemed useless . . . and then the final judgment . . . REPORT CARDS! Some deserving deep pride . . . others simply tucked away in a poeket . . . eaeh helping his owner to know himself better . . . the work of six weeks seen in the form of one small letter. Resolutions...anguish...excuses.Hknowledge...all area part of our learning. Another year at City . . . typical, yet unique . . . with lots of laughter. not a few worries and those moments of gloom that made the laughter all the brighter . . . a year of accomplishment . . . how would we have ever made it through without those eatnaps-in class and out-somehow we didn't get lost in the shuffle . . . somehow We got all the books read. all the reports typed . . . and the projects completed . . . somehow we made it through . . . it all passed by . . . sooner than we ever thought pos- sible . . . days slipped into weeks, weeks into se- mesters, and then winter was gone . . . and soggy Clouds of damp spring hung over the once bleak hill . . . boots and loafers gave way to tenny pumps . . . once more another class was leav- ing . . . diplomas . . . white dresses and coats . . . praetiee . . . rush practice . . . and then with u pang of regret . . . we suddenly knew an- other year of learning had gone by . . . Three years of knowl- edge can n e v e r be equaled as you s t e p up the stair- w a y o f City's... x
