Q . . . prayers . . . 4, 4 A rc Ft af distant re- verberation of the drums at half-time . . .the drill squad filing onto the field . . . the victories . . . over Brainerd . . . over Central . . . the crisp- ness of the late autumn air ...the exciting moments of home- coming ceremonies . . . the thrill of the national anthem . . . the month of endless training . . . anguish . . . exhaus- tion . . . bliss . . . trophies . . . broken records . . . the ear-cracking shouts in the gym: uLet,s go, big City . . . our cheerleaders let's golv the endless enthusiasm of ours was a good year . . . the pep meeting without lights . . . the car caravan to Engel Stadium . . . the 3,000 fans at the District 9 Tournaments . . . the yelling . . . crossed fingers With few exceptions City presented outstanding leaders in almost every sport . . . we boasted 3 state champions in wrestling . . . not to mention our all-city, all-district and all-region basketball stars . . . in track and wrestling our teams ranked among the top 3 in the state . . .Pit was work . . . sometimes the muscles grew so tired gs that they quivered until blessed sleep gained control over them hidden tears emerged from even the boldest eyes at the thought of more exercise . . . some quit . . . some continued . . . some were faced with deep disappointment . . . others with resounding victories . . . many benefited . . . others were not so fortunate . . . the sports world is one of determination and self discipline . . . that white CM on a jacket symbol- ized more than Watching others do the work . . . it pointed o11t the individual who worked as one of a team to make the name of City High even greater . . . C.H.S. had champions on the football field . . . in the gym . . . on the courts . . . in the pools . . . on the diamond . . . on the mat . . . on the greens . . . on the track . . . To put it mildly, C.H.S. was a city of male and'female cham- pions, when she stepped into the world

Why, Init!! i f 5 you could stay f after school every day until dusk and still not get in on half of C.H.S.'s astonishing ac- tivities . . . rehearsals.. . . every free mo- ment taken for the play . . . for assembly programs . . . for '6Stunt Nite,' and uPrevnes . . . meetings after school . . . concerning clubs . . . the New York trip . . . decorating for the Vondells . . . or just sticking around until someone utters, '4Hey, come give me a hand, and you're caught up in a four-hour job . . . after announcements are read in homeroom . . . did it happen to you often . . . three meetings to attend after school, all at the same time! Trivial things? Perhaps . . . but remember' how impor- tant they were for us during the 90th year of Chattanooga High School History. And how the student body went for those extra activities . . . always signing lists . . . showing up on Saturdays for a full day of painting flats or decorating the Commons .y . . Donit stand there-GET BUSY l All you had to do was ask, and? C.H.S. handed you an over'-loaded armful of chores to do . . . Well,, to put it in simple st form -you name it and we had it! Happiness is made up of little things . . . those times that have special meaning only for you . . . opening your locker to find that the mighty C.H.S. Rolling Team had struck again . . . dancing the night away'after our victory over Central . . . missing honor roll by one C . . . following up on the stylish fads . . . surpassing that de- sirable urge to slide down the banister . . . that's what you have when school is over. . . these are the things you don't forget . . . Citys activities, for the most part, don't go down in a grade form . . . they are only remembered and occasionally spoken but if you were asked to do it all again, there would be no doubt as to your answer . . . because this phase of your three years is unforget- table . . . As you step out of C.'H. S., and into life. you will always have vivid mem- ories of her . . .
