It doesn't take new students long to leam that the gathering place of CHS is under the clock. Om' first class cheering squad raised school enthusiasm and inspired the teams. The sixty-seven clubs at CHS are divided into three areas, honor, service and interest. AROUND THE CLOCK The clock in the main hall is a focal point at CHS. It is the first thing you see upon entering and last upon leaving. Not a day goes by without looking at its familiar face. Under it we have met a certain person, and turned in money and dates names to social functions. Around that clock we have learned, played, engaged in extra-curricular activi- ties, made friends, loved, laughed, and cried. Yes, it has ticked off for each of us our happy, enthusiastic, anxious and troublesome moments in a most dispassion- ate manner. CHS students canit help but reminisce when they look at its familiar face about all the activities that happened Around the Clock at CHS.,' How fast it seems to tick away our summer vacation and how slowly it seemed to tick while we were in class those first days. Following summer vacations the Seniors now leaders, were becoming important parts of the history of City High. The Juniors were now familiar with CHS tra- ditions, but the new Sophomores were dazed by the big school and new adventure. After the Get Acquainted Party, the whirl of activities began. Everyone was seen busily writing an application letter for a club or staff, practicing cheers for try-outs, or maybe some were just trying to find their class rooms. City offered an extensive extra-curricular choice. We learned to play bridge better in the bridge club or looked hopefully to the future in the Future Teachers of America Club. Autumn hadn't even tinged the air faintly the night of the first football game. This was the night for which the football team had been training, and for which everyone had been looking forward. After Sophomores Alice Killian and Bobby Grant joined the pep crew, we were ready to cheer our boys on to-well, maybe it wasn't victory everytime, but they always gave the other team a tough fight. We were very proud of our band and drum major at the Bristol Band Festival when Jeff Phillips received the first place trophy for the band and Brenda Suit, the second place one. Later they also received trophies at the Chattanooga Band Festival. The first formal entertainment of the year was presented by the Senior Class. Actors and actresses alike, groggy with hours of rehearsals, stage crews with their effective lighting and scenery, business and
