In some cases City boys took advantage of this situation by being able to sweet-talk the women teachers into a second chance at a pass- ing gracle. The teachers explained this partiality by saying how sweet one boy looked or how earnestly another seemed to try. Disre- garding these little inci- dents and by working together, the students and faculty made 1952 a most enioyable year. ,MZ 72a tllillll MR. FRANK H. TROTTER MR. LAWRENCE G. Page I3 as F' 35 . fl , , M..- Q-, MA-M1-.fwma Classes usually mean work and boredom. Af- ter thinking about our classes, we realize they're really fun. In some classes we have film strips, movies, rec- ords, and interesting field trips. Lots of work is done in class, but some of our happiest memories start there. At school we make passing and last- ing friendships - and sometimes even lifelong romances. A ,s f ,iw ,rdf 0 W Senior officers David Keown, Claudia Smith, Ronnie Coleman, and Lawrence Bryant prepare for a class meeting. We CLASS H195 LAVVRENCE BRYANT , . . l-lard-working and capable, presided over the Class of '52, RONNIE COLEMAN . . 4 All around athlete, vvas the vice-president of the class. CLAUDIA SMITH . . . Always resourceful served as the efficient secretary of the class. DAVID KEOWN . . . Careful keeper of the books, did the work of the treasurer. Under these, their capable leaders, the Class of '52 proved that work and play can be successfully combined, ln the many projects undertaken bythe seniors, they have shown ingenuity, initiative and originality. Beginning early in their sophomore year, they presented the Thanksgiving program to the school, and when called upon as juniors to sponsor the annual Junior-Senior Prom, they demonstrated their zeal and originality by transforming the gym into an under-sea world . After they took upon themselves the duties of seniors, they repeated their abilities in the very special entertainment they fur- nished the children at the Christmas party. All things must come to an end, and the Class of '52 brought their three years at Chattanooga High School to a close by exhibiting many unusual antics and costumes Senior Day. May Day, Class Day, the senior picnic and baccalaureate sermon were over soon, bringing commencement all too quickly. In many ways the girls are ready to express their admiration for the boys wh o play the games. F3 A-A '7!wP' ' Coach Jim Henry, Head Coach Bobby Matusek, and Coach Maroney look over their 1951 athletic records. Although the 1951 football season may be termed as a not too successful one, the gridiron boys are still respected as an ever hopeful threat in prep school circles. Building for the future was the basis of the 1951 football philosophy at City High. Coach Bobby Matusek, who has been coaching at City since 1945, was athletic director and head football coach. Coach Charley Maroney, a man of several years experience in the coaching field, was his able assistant. Coach Jim Henry, a graduate of Georgia Tech and of City, where he captciined the '41 team, returned to his alma mater as the other assistant. Spring City made its first stop of the 1951 season at Memorial Field for the Dynamos opener. The Dynamos were at- tempting to break Spring City's twenty-three game winning streak. Instead, the Dynamos lost out to the strong visitors by 19 to O. Second on the list were the Red Bank Lions. Red Bank was out for revenge because they had not wan a game from City in four years. The Red Bank Lions took their revenge with a score of Red Bank 12 and City O. Next came Bristol, which in 1950 had lost to the Dynamos in the last few minutes of the game. They were also out for 'fbloaclf' Bristol defeated the Dynamos, 26-12. Another visiting team, Columbia, brought along a strong club to battle the Dynamos in their hardest played game. At the half the score was 7-7, in the second half the strong Columbians moved ahead to win 33 to 14. Then came Tlvll. Victory for the Dynamos was in the air, both teams had yet to win a game. The Dynamos took that one 13 to 7. Resuming one of the long-standing grid competitions, the Dynamos then met the boys in blue from the foot of the Ridge. McCallie. The Dynamos went down before them, 42-13. Athletic managers Bill Burnette, .limmy Duke, and Dan Hobbs Grayson Perkins shows Co-Captainseelect Charles Champion and store equipment for the season. The following week Bradley came To Memorial Field with perhaps The strongest Team in the district. The Bradley Bears defeated the Dynamos, 27-7. Journeying to Knoxville for a game with Knox Rule, The Dynamos kept Their spirits high for this road trip, which included a Tennessee game and a Trip over the Smokies. Meeting Knox Rule on Saturday night, the Dynamos went down, 52-12. The season ended on a cold November night when The Dynamos lost 53-O to one of Georgia's strongest teams, The Ross! ville Bulldogs.
