Text from Pages 1 - 88 of the 1984 volume:

As this year’s Talefeather Staff, we would like to dedicate our yearbook in memory of: Mr. Alan Drilling He was the kind of guy everyone liked. A man with great ambitions — To his coworkers, employer, faculty, student body and friend, he was the greatest. He had a sense of humor that just couldn’t be beat. He was a kind and caring man. His smile, laughter, kindness, and his friendship showed through in everyone he knew. He will always be remembered. i Chatsworth 1983 — 1984 School Board Standing: Francis Haberkorn, Gerald Bayston, Roger Wilson, Kieth Heindrichs. Seated: Thomas Gerth, Robert Fields, James Elliot. We would like to thank the Chatsworth board members for supporting Talefeathers this past year. These men, although not paid for their services, take a keen interest in the school and its activities. They help guide and direct the school each year. We truly appreciate their assistance. Graduation 1984 56 Graduation 1984 1984 Class Wills I, BRETT BAYSTON, being of scientific mind, and a body that defies all modern-day science, do will and bequeath the following things to the following people: To Sarah Beth, I will a spill-proof Pepsi glass, numerous unexplored cemeteries, and abundant supply of gasoline, and all my Jane Fonda records since it’s obvious that she needs the flexibility more than I do. To Mike Miller I will one wider-sprung thicker made, bigger volume female, since he seems to be partial to those kinds of heifers in all the judging contests. To Keith Wilken I will a promotion from Rookie to Veteran since he now has more “experience” than I do. To the entire junior class, I will my unmatchable ability to get along with all the teachers. Last, but not least, I leave my brother Bart many fine memories of high school in hopes that he enjoys it as much as I have. I, PHILIP ALAN BLACK, JR., being of deranged mind and Tom Selleck-like body do hereby will and bequeath to the following lucky people. To Jim Tooley my awesome slam dunk ability in hope that he puts one down in the coming year. To Michael Moody a map of the surrounding countryside with marked recreational spots in hope that he won’t get into trouble in school hallways. To Mr. Weber I leave my artistic ability to make posters and paint murals on the Ag room walls, so that he will be able to relax after teaching his Ag I class. To Jason Friedman I leave all my stocks in the window replacement company. And finally to the student body of CHS, I leave all the teachers in hope that they all behave as well as I have. I, ROBIN (SOON TO BE SOREY) being of romantic mind and unmentionable body, do hereby will and bequeath the following. To Cindy Flessner I leave my quick temper and determination, along with my motto, “No problem is too hard to overcome!” To Suzanne Davis I leave my locker in hope that she can fill it with as many pictures of Mike as I have of Gene. To Helen Steidinger I leave the memories of all our wild basketball games and a baseball bat in hope that she can keep Jim Rich in line, to Shawn Stein, Missy Miller, Tina Crawford, Cindy Flessner, Shelly Gibson and Lucy Gardner, I leave the nagging sound of my constant “whistle” and “Shut-up! in hope that I won’t be forgotten during practices; to Teresa Sheppard I leave my ability to have good dreams; last but not least, to my brother, Ron, I leave this school and the ability to find someone special. I, JON WAYNE CABBAGE, being of weak body and of even weaker mind will and bequeath the following. To Jim Rich all of my many hours at Dick’s so he can make the “bucks” I’ve made; to Randy Mattingly I leave the right to knock my sister around it she gets out of hand, also my sow-riding technique; to Mr. Riha I leave my expert kite making ability, see how his failed him; to Eric Guentner I leave my ability to get Lori Kistler jealous during first period art class; and the rest, which isn’t much, I’m taking with me. I, VIRGINIA LEE CLARK, being of under-blessed mind and over-blessed body, do hereby will and bequeath the following: to Dottie Culkin I leave my place in the world of rude and crude comments, since she is best suited for the job; to Sarah Weber I leave another crazy patient to counsel during her studyhalls; to Tina Willis I leave all my left-over energy from P.E. in hope one of us will finally exert some ot it; to Ann Krones I leave an all-weather survival outfit so she can survive the elements during her daily walks uptown for lunch; and to Jeana, Dottie, Teri and Angie I leave this school to use as they see fit, have fun! And most of all, I leave the Melvin Fair and all the fun times at CHS. I, KRISTEN LEE FEELY I, being of Popeye mind and Olive Oylic body do hereby will and bequeath the following things: to Mr. Kapper, I leave an autographed copy of my new book entitled ‘‘The Virtues of Being a Proscrastinator from the Word-GOI”, in hope that he reads it and realizes that this Feely disease is really a blessing in disguise. To Sarah and Teresa, I leave a rubber telephone pole for those times when they feel like playing “Dukes of Hazzard” with the Webermobile. To Shawn Stein, I leave her own set of plans ranking from A to Z for any tricky situation she may encounter in the near future. To Jeana and Teri I will next year’s supply of stolen absentee slips with Coach’s signature on them. And last, but not least, I leave to Mr. Gibb, the fond memories of basketball practice and hope that next year he will mind his XYZ’s instead of his P’s and Q’s! I, JAMES FRIEDMAN, hereby leave my great driving ability to Mr. Tommy “Crash” Stadler because with his driving ability he needs all the help he can get. I also leave Burt Brees to the next bunch of kids that will ride the LAVC bus in hope that they will take better care of him. I also leave my pencil to Eric Guentner so that he can write AYE COACHIE all over the study hall tables without getting caught and being sent to Coachies’s office. And to Smelly Gibson I leave my bottle of perfume so that she won’t stink up the halls of CHS anymore. To the rest of you I leave nothing because I am such a cheapskate anyway. I, MARK D. PROPHESY It is the year 1994 and the Class of 1984 is scattered about the country busily living out their life’s ambitions. However, back in Chatsworth, Blaise Demuth, their ever-beloved speech teacher, is dying of a rare disease called comicbookitis which we acquired during the 1984 Junior Senior Play. Mr. Demuth’s last dying wish is to have his favorite Class of 1984 back with him one last time to act out his last play. The play that he has selected is “Captain Fantastic, The Final Chapter”. After receiving news of Mr. Demuth’s wish, the class members hurry back to Chatsworth for the first practice in order to fulfill his final dream. The first person that showed up for the practice was Carl Hornstein. Carl is now farming land outside of Chatsworth With his devoted and loving wife Sarah Weber Hornstein. In the play Carl will play a high school gigolo who, while in the line of duty, falls in love with the science wiz, Bonnie. Bonnie will be portrayed by Janet Kapper. After college Janet made it big in the veterinary field. She now owns her own train and travels around the country assisting famous veterinarians. Janet arrived in Chatsworth a little late because she was held up by cattle rancher Don Rich. Don, who now owns a ranch in Colorado, need some emergency attention for his Red Holsteins, (or is that Herefords, Don?). Because Don was planning on attending play to help with the sound (with Don no microphone system is needed) Jan let him ride along on the train. The hero of the play, otherwise known as Captain Fantastic, will again be played by Brett Bayston. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a major in animal science, Brett went back to school to carry out his dream of becoming a commercial airline pilot. Lately, Brett has become well known with women around the country because of a feature Playgirl Magazine did on him a month ago. Brett, however, is not too thrilled with this instant popularity because he was featured in the comic section. As soon as Brett received the news of Mr. Demuth’s wish he flew some of his old classmates and himself back to Chatsworth. Two of his passengers, who will be superheroes in the play, are Mark Johnson, and Tracey Kirkpatrick Johnson. For years this newlywed couple never knew of the love that was between them. But then fate stepped in and they met again at an elegant hollywood party. Both Tracey and Mark are successful movie stars who were discovered after college. Mark was discovered while working on a noted movie director’s car. The movie director saw Marks inside talent and gave him an offer to be the new J.R. Tracey's now working on her new movie called “YODA, The Inside Story.” Other people who flew in with Brett and are to be superheroes are Ruth Hudson and Tina Mattingly. Ruth and Tina have just returned from a Business convention in California. Both Ruth and Tina have high hopes of owning their own businesses. After high school Ruth decided that the Dental Field was not for her. Therefore, she came back to Chatsworth and worked full time at the Old Chapel Inn. As the years went by, Ruth moved up the ladder of success in the restaurant business. Now ten years later, Ruth is working on a franchise of new Chapel Inns all around the country. She hopes to open her newest inn at that favorite night spot — Fairbury. Tina is hoping to open her own diet center right across the street from the New Chapel Inn. After Tina’s great success in her weight-loss program during her senior year, she decided to open her own center. Tina now counsels and has exercise classes for overweight men and women all over cental Illinois. Brett also flew Ron Rebholz into Chatsworth so that he could run the spotlight for the play. Because Ron had been in the spotlight much of the time it seemed a good idea to put him behind it for the play. Ron, who had a highly successful basketball career in college and is now in the pros, often does advertisements for men’s underwear in magazines all over the country. It is our under- standing that his contract with the company will not be renewed as they are in the process of declaring bankruptcy. Flying in after the first plane was an F-116 Fighter. Todd Stemke and Jon Cabbage, who are to portray villians 62 in the play, were piloting the plane, after having joined the Air Force after high school, and both have found that they like the service so much they are planning on making a lifetime career of it. Other classmates are not as dedicated to Uncle Sam as Todd and Jon. One of the is classmate Sean Labij. Sean joined the army right out of high school but was soon discharged because of his 'unmilitary like’ attitude. Disappointed, Sean returned to Chatsworth a defeated man. However, his life took a turn in the right direction when he was reunited with his old friend Jamie Freedman. Sean ane Jamie decided to do something with their lives and start their own business. They now own and run Sean and Jamie’s Used Car Lot and Parts Business. Because of TV commitments they will be unable to attend the play. Todd Steidinger, on the other hand, will be able to be in the play and will portray the arch villian who traps Captain Fantastic. After his army time Todd began a new career as Game Warden on the south side of Chicago. Todd specializes in arresting people for shooting coons and chopping down trees. An alumni who came to Chatsworth to watch the play and yell encouragement from the bench, oop’s — audience, was Joe Dohman. Joe drove his new car all the way from Detroit, Mich. Joe now works for Ford Motor Company in the trunk design department. Joe’s dream is to design the ultimate car trunk which will be larger and more comfortable for those late nights out. On the way to Chatsworth Joe picked up two of the plays villians Phil and Cheri Black. Phil and Cheri were married shortly after college and are now living in a secluded town in Michigan. Phil is training vigorously for the 1996 Summer Olympics and Cheri is acting as his Personal Manager. Cheri also provides income for the couple by tutoring High School Chemistry Students. As Joe was driving past a Chicago suburb, he ran a stop sign and nearly missed hitting Beth Gillete Johnson and Renee Lade McDonald. Beth and Renee married their high school sweethearts after college and Renee now has a little one on the way. Beth is working on coordinating the maternity line in the next Sears Catalog and Renee will be modeling the clothes. In the play, Beth will again be playing the part of Veronica. On the other hand Renee will be unable to play the role of Penelope because of her condition. Chosen to take the part of Penelope is Lady Kristin Feely. During college Kristin was a cheerleader and one of the more important games was attended by Prince Andrew. The Prince became so enchanted by Kristin that they began dating steadily. Kristin, however still can’t decide if whe wants to marry him or not. Kristin attended practice with her personal hair dresser and make-up artist Ginger Clark. Ginger became famous after beauty college because of her excellent hair dressing and make up skills. She is now a household word as Vidal Sasson once was. Ginger will be the makeup artist for all the cast members. Hitch-hiking to Chatsworth is the plays producer Christ Matich. Christ is walking because he is too poor to afford bus fare to Chatsworth. Christ went broke after high school due to his horse farm and is now pursuing a career as a bat-boy for the Chicago White Sox. Seing Christ walking along the road, Ann Steidinger and Robin Briscoe Sorey, two other superheroes, pick him up in Ann’s Van. Ann is now happily married with fifteen children and works as an assistant professor helping Mr. Koets. Robin is happily married to Gene Sorey and is now working at CHS as Mr. Carrico's Secretary. She took over the job a year ago when Mrs. Clark had an untimely accident. She was trampled by the hungry, mob-crazed CHS student body on their way to lunch. Many of us here of course will be in the audience watching and we know that with the talent listed in this program the play will be a success. We hope that you will be together for a reunion in ten years and even though you might not be pursuing the careers that we have predicted, we hope that your live's ambition and dreams come true. We hope that you will always remember the fun times that you have shared at CHS, and the fond memories that go along with them. And the words of Wisdom that have brought you to this moment and plateau in your lives: What’s the Word? (The Bird) 63 The Next Few Pages Summarize The 1983-84 YearatC.H.S.
