But, due to lack of participation on the part of the members of the class, the reunion had to be canceled. Marilyn (Dassow) Smith, chairperson of the committee in charge of organizing the reunion, noticed that there were some excuses for the absence of several class members. For example, Rick Teegarden, the famous country western vocalist whose most recent hit was, Bricks Get In Your Windshield had an important engagement at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. The absence of Cindy (Kapper) and Mike Hanauer was also noticed. It is rumored that Cindy, a former varsity cheerleader now turned housewife, was practicing a few good oT CHS basketball cheers one day while hanging clothes out on the clothesline, fell, and broke her leg in 23 places. Mike, owner and operator of a 1 1 2 acre ranch south of Chatsworth, refused to come to the reunion without Cindy, and, as he remarked, We’re so busy around planting time anyhow! Susie Kent had really planned to come to the big 20th reunion, but, on the way, her brand new '67 Chevy Mustang broke down. Susie, being very mechanical minded, tried to fix the car, but, as she put it, I couldn’t get the long skinny thing to fit back into the long narrow icky thing! Jayne Edwards, proprietor of the local Head Shop Beads-N-Things was with Susie when the car broke down, thus causing her to miss the reunion also. Vicki Toots Edwards was also absent from the reunion. Toots, who obviously has a weird sense of values, chose to attend the 20th reunion of the class of 75, but it was the 20th reunion of the class of 75 from Tri-Point. Wait until she hears about all the fun she missed. Bill Endres, and Joe Friedman’s attendance was also missed at the 20th reunion. Bill and Joe, co-owners of the Chatsworth Adult Film Club, are constantly arguing about what kind of films to run. Joe, who thinks they should cater to the adults in the 7-15 age bracket, wants to show old reruns of Star-Trek. While Bill, who is slightly more mature, wants to show adult movies starring that Swedish film star, Cecilia Nilsson. Bill says he has even arranged for Cecilia to return to Chatsworth to help promote her new movie, Hubba Hubba in the Tubba, but Joe SAYS definitely not. At last report they were still arguing. Speaking of film stars, the absence of Belinda Loveface was also noticed. As you know, Belinda, (whose real name is Becky Chayer) was discovered by a talent scout at The Boy Friend, a CHS musical of a few years back. In her letter to chairperson Marilyn explaining why she couldn't attend, Belinda stated, You know how it is with us STARS! Busy, busy, busy! Why just the other day, my manager said to me, ’My you have a busy-body!' but that’s show-biz! Jed Diller and Fred Barker were two other people who didn't quite make it to the reunion. Fred, a graduate of UCLA, and Jed a graduate of Parkland University, were drafted by the California Cowcuds of the Universal Football League. Jed was quoted as saying he just couldn't make it to the reunion, for he was the starting quarterback for the Cowcuds, and he had to stay home and learn his plays. While Fred, who had a more valid excuse, wrote saying that he was the first siring bench warmer for the Cowcuds, and had taken over the position as head cheerleader chaperon, thus making it impossible for him to attend. T Denise (Hubly) Deany, a former All-American track star, was bound and determined to long jump all the way from her home in Dointsville, South Dakota to the reunion in Chatsworth. At last report, Denise had not yet reached the reunion when it was canceled, but they expected her to come jumping in any minute. Steve Kahle and Leo Dassow were also missed at the reunion. Steve and Leo, co-captains of the US Olympic Hog Judging Team, were at a judging contest in Warsaw, Poland when the reunion was held. When Leo called back to Chatsworth to explain their absence, he told us that Steve had become ill early in the judging. It seems that Steve became quite dizzy and complained that all he could see was spots. Leo assured us, though, that he thought that Steve would recover. Former Senator Frank Kemnetz thought that his prison term would be over by the time of the 20th reunion was held, but, unfortunately, it was not. Former Senator Kemnetz, recently indicted on charges of bugging and infiltrating the Democratic party, was fined $1.75, and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Senator Kemnetz, a staunch Republican, was placing bugging devices in the toilets at the Capitol to try and learn of the election plans of the Democrats. Gerry Groskreutz, a janitor at the capitol building, found the bugging devices while cleaning the toilets one day and turned Senator Kemnetz into the authorities. In his testimony to the court, Gerry stated, quote, Senator Kemnetz wasn't very popular with the Democrats in the beginning, but since then he has really made a big SPLASH! Connie Bell and Bev Brandt, who both live in Charlotte, a small suburb of Chatsworth, decided upon an Amtrak train as their means of transportation to the reunion. Connie and Bev, co-owners of the Bula, Bula,” a big nightclub in Charlotte, were quite upset when, on the way to the reunion, their train was struck by a car driven by Chuck Abdul Dennewitz. Needless to say, Chuck wasn't exactly thrilled by the accident either, for he had just bought the car, a 1975 Rolls Royce. Rumor has it that Chuck, heir to the Bennewitz Oil Company fortune, bought the car with funds he embezzled from the oil company, but as he put it You expect more from Standard and you get it! Sacit Ersen was also missed at the proceedings. Sacit, owner of a chain of Turkish baths, was out of the country at the time, but sent a note saying he hoped to make it to the 21st. Gary Schade, Greg Hubly, and Jim Wiles were also missed at this 20th outing. Sources close to city hall say that Wiles, recently elected mayor of Chatsworth, had entered in a boating race to be held on the Vermillion River the day before the reunion. Gary, the world-renown artist who is most famous for his finger painting of the Mona Lisa, and Greg, a narcotics agent and alleged stockholder in Jayne Edwards head shop, agreed to help out as the crew on the boat. As the boat passed through Pontiac, Mayor Wiles, who was standing on top of the boat waving at the crowds, forgot to duck as the boat passed under a bridge. Both Mr. Schade and Mr. Hubly are listed as candidates to fill the now vacated position of Mayor. Vicki Hornickel and Mary Culkin were the only two classmates who were in attendance at the reunion. Chairperson Marilyn thought it was rather strange that Mary and Vicki, both nurses at Chatsworth City Hospital, sat in the corner of the cafeteria all night reading recent copies of Today's Health while they practiced giving shots to each other. When Marilyn asked them why they weren't on duty at the hospital, they both replied, Ick! We just can't stand to be around all those SICK people! Chairperson Marilyn was quite disappointed when no one showed up for the reunion, but at last report, she was planning for the 21st reunion, while the rest of the class members were thinking up their excuses why they couldn’t attend.
