Nineteen Hundred Qeventy Three TALE FEATHERS Chafsworth High School Chatsworth, Illinois I must begin to reach beyond I have but one life and one goal to reach. Every step is important for it brings me a little closer to where I have to go. Contents Others help me find my way For I cannot walk alone. Without directions I am lost. Each small act of others can be an arrow , Every smile can be a sign. 5 Dedication FACULTY 8 Superintendent Mr. Robert Stuckey I wish to congratulate the Tale-Feather's staff and their sponsor, Mr. Brunskill, for the work they have done to publish such a fine yearbook. At the present time, we are certainly in an era of transformation, but I am sure this yearbook will keep th ose important events and memories of this year revived throughout the years to come. Mr. Carrico Congratulations to the 1973 Tale -Feathers staff and their sponsor, Mr. Richard Brunskill, for their efforts in presenting this pictorial review of Chatsworth High School 1972-1973 school year. Congratulations also to the members of the Class of 73. We are proud of you, and feel certain you will represent all of us well with your future success. Mr. Stuckey Principal Mr. Leeon Carrico 9 Teachers of the Year As a result of a tie, Mr. Richard Brunskill and Mr. Gene Weber were both selected by the student body as 1973 Teachers of the Year. Mr. Brunskill teaches Speech, Journalism, and Speedreading, as well as English Hand IV. He is a freshman sponsor, and sponsor of both the newspaper and yearbook staffs. Mr. Weber teaches Ag I, II, III, IV, Power Mechanics I, II, and Conservation. He also is the FFA sponsor. The fact that Mr. Brunskill and Mr. Weber have been here for several years has not stopped them from being popular with the students of C.H.S. We wish them the best of luck in whatever they do. 10 1. John F. Kennedy Happiness and Heartache - Peace, and love, and more. These are the memories of school In such short years of four. So to our parents, Teachers - And fellow students all We wish you these immeasurable thoughts As we pass from Chatsworth's halls: No we'll ne'er pass this way again, And in a mellow sadness, without doubt, We leave these words of wisdom to all - That's what school is all about. 17 Valedictorian WILLIAM LEE FISHER Fish Basketball 1234; Football 1234; Track 1234; A.F.S. 1234; Spanish 1234; Band 1; National Honor Society 34; Letterman's Club 1234; Explorers Club 123; Junior and Senior Class Play; Illinois State Scholar; Prom Court. Senior Prophecy As the graduating class of '73 walks down the aisle with heads held nigh - one must be careful of that word nowadays - their parents pause to ponder. Will this present generation of good clean kids of '73 be the rioting class of 77 or be the peace-loving souls who will settle down to make this world a better place in which to live? To answer this most pressing question let's focus in on the village of Chatsworth ten years from now. My, how the class of '73 has expanded into so many fields. As we walk down the mainline, I mean mainstreet of Cnatsworth we can't help but be amazed at how many of the class have stayed around to help our thriving community grow and prosper. On that shady corner where the mighty five and dime of Mr. Bauldauff once stood has risen a new store which is the envy of Chatsworth: Horn's Hut, the local fabricated shop run by the Misses C. A. Homickel and M. A. Aberle. In this fine store of threads where a bargain is a rule, not an exception, we see several classmates shopping for the bargains to be had, and discussing the latest fashions from Paris, London, Piper City, and other fashion centers of the world. Mrs. Donna Zom, Kathy Kemnetz, Terrie Perkins, Mary Ann Hill and Lynn Monahan all had much to say about the newest fads. When asked if any of the girls knew the whereabouts of that famous mystery woman, Debbie McKinley, none could reply. It was noted by several of the shoppers that after graduation, Debbie went to see the country with her favorite ride and somehow got lost, never to be found again. After an exchange of goodbyes we soon left this fashion paradise to continue our stroll down the city streets. All of a sudden the wail of police sirens shattered the peaceful stillness, which consistently enshrouds our fair village. Soon the flashing of red lights set stop a beautiful used police car signaled the approach and passing of Officer Kevin D. Kimmel or Kev as we all know him. As we looked down the road we could see where Officer Kimmel was trucking. To a freak accident between a car and a motorcycle which had taken place just down the street. A horrible collision between a car driven by Dick Kurtenbach and the other motor-type vehicle riden by Gary Alan Doh-man had just occured. Only after much discussion could the events be properly put in their place. It seems though Dick failed to reduce his speed to avoid the accident and a ticket for this offense was laid on him by Officer Kimmel. $1800 damage was done to the Kurtenbach car and $3. 25 to Dohman's motorcycle. They sure don't build cars like they used to. There was much other excitement around the fair city of late. It seems that ambulance driver Tom Livingston, who drives the SELCAS unit in our district, had to take poor Walt Sterrenberg to the hospital again. For the fifth time in ten years Walt fell off a moving vehicle. Gog laughingly said that it was a great way to stay in shape, but it seemed to us that it could cause a hike in his insurance rates. But there's no problem there since Chatsworth's remaining insurance negotiate, Greg Shafer is still a friend of Walts. Greg came on the car-motorcycle accident and computed the value of the loss - tried to sell the witnesses insurance and a few passerbyers some real estate. Keep them moving Greg. Speaking of moving it seems that most of the seniors have been responsible for so many of the new signs in and around Chatsworth. Stop signs, peace signs, and Keep off the grass signs are just some of their more recent donations. Meanwhile back on our jaunt through metropolis we ran on two of our housewife types - Mrs. Stephen Simnick (Liesa Henrichs) and Mrs. Mike Molkk (Kay Tauber). Liesa and Kay had just bargain shopped at another fine new shopping center - the crafts and arts store owned by Nancy Schade. Nancy sells paints, leather works, beads, trinkets, beaver pelts and so on. Seems like these kinds of stores are quite the thing nowadays. After passing the store we were surprised to see the members of this class who joined the armed forces. These brave men and women who make America what it is today and make apple pie taste like it does. These brave young men and women are no other than Pfc. Carl Culkin, Pfc. Roger Kroll, Pfc. Ernie Robinson, Pfc. Jim Scher, Pfc. 1st class Glen Bailey and WAC 1st class Debbie Durham. We talked to them about how the Armed Forces are today. After we said goodbye we left and to myself I thought Glen is the same old Glen I knew because he's still standing there wondering what we said. One of the members of our group was hungry so we stopped at a store. The faces looked familiar and then it came to us. The clerks at the registers were Vicki Kietzman and Susy Kemnetz and the woman stacking the top shelves was Julie Hornickel. We Knew her height would come to gooa use some time. We made our purchase and left the store in search of more of the class of 73. As we were crossing a street we were faced with meter maid Linda Kahle blowing her whistle at us. She claimed one of us had dropped some paper, littering ya know. We talked to Linda and she informed us that Rod Haberkorn (better known as Charlie for the chips ne sells) was voted mayor. And it was his idea to install parking meters, thus giving Linda her job. A few people in our group were tired so we sat down on the curb to rest. As we looked down mam we could see the town truck coming towards us. We couldn't see who was driving until the truck pulled up right in front of us and out jumped Ed Maxson. We asked him when he started working for the town, Ed said, Right after school got out. Ed told us that due to bad health Cecil Clester was forced to give up his job. We said goodbye to Ed and proceeded on through the hub of Chatsworth. As we proceeded down the street we ran into another new business establishment run by the class of '73. The Porker's Inn run by Mr. and Mrs. Randy Zom, Wayne Wahls and Phil Weller. This is a combination bar and hotel. The bar is run by Donna Schroen and Madeline Haberkorn. Billy jack Ready is employed as a bouncer. As we walked to the end of the street we found the remaining members of the class we hadn't seen yet. Laying sod was Bill Fisher, Bill the former Olympic High-jump champion, has come back to work for his dad. And driving down the road in a shiny new Volkswagon was Elaine Nussbaum. Elaine had a bad fight with her father and to get back at him she bought a Volkswagon dealership. As'we leave Chatsworth of the future we feel good to know the way the class of '73 treated their home town, hope the class of '74 does the same.
