Bluebird coach Jim Ficek, and his assistant Don Gibb, were faced with a tremendous rebuilding job. For the first time in the last three years, CHS was not considered in the running for championship honors in the V.V. conference. Following a fast start, the Big Blue finally began to slow down and finished the season by winning only 11 of 24 games to end up in 7th place in the final standings. Lack of consistency from the free throw line as well as from the field was quickly evidenced in the season encounters. Also a goodly number of turnovers cost the Bluebirds a number of victories. However, we are looking forward to a fine group from the Frosh-Soph team which finished 26-5 last year, to combine with a fine nucleus of Seniors to give us a conference challenger next year. 58 The Bluebirds, under the direction of mentor Jim Ficek, switched from their slow pattern of last year to a quicker pace fast break offense. The attack was led again this year by center Jerry Kurtenbach, who was encompassed by fine outside scoring by Mike Hubly and Pat Kaiser, and rebounding by Pat Murphy. The following is a summation of the Big Blue’s Seasonal Record. Senior Class of 1970 will and bequeath to the students at Chatsworth High School all the knowledge and experience we have gained during the past four years and also the remaining administration and faculty in hope that you can cope with them as well as we did. To the Juniors we bequeath our most esteem position as head of the school and our ability to rule with an iron fist. We also will the incoming freshmen and the hope for a senior class trip. To the Sophomores we will the privilege to become upperclassmen and the one and only Mr. Kapper. To the Freshmen we will the experiences they have encountered with us as their fearless leaders and the privilege of promotion from green freshmen to “experience” sophomores. Prophecy Here we sit under the magnolia tree, drinking our Southern Comfort and reading the latest issue of The Small Wigglers, edited by the now famous Josephine Elizabeth Hubly and Patricia Tooley. The headline reads as follows: Kaiser-New President!! Skimming the article we notice where Patrick Kaiser, who just graduated from Notre Dame, has been asked to come back to his hometown, to serve as President of the University of Chatsworth. Working with Mr. Kaiser as the new Dean of Women, is Davida Dehm, who in the last few years of teaching has been known as the “Boss of Bosses.” Serving the boys will be their idol, Patrick Murphy, the Man With the Muscles. Houseparents for next year are Ronald Galloway and P. J. Folliard Boy, won’t those kids have FUN!!! Turning the page, our eyes catch the scene of a riot in Costelloville, where there’s always mischief going on. Here we find Connie Lee, Gloria Lang, and Cindy Lang leading a group of kids to the house of the Mayor, David Costello. The group is greeted at the door by a swinging old lady, supposedly the Mayor’s wife, the former Anne Fox. With her, she is carrying her motorcycle helmet and her “Hippie Beads.” These kids have come to the mayor’s wife for help in getting their friend, Joe Boyce—The Hippie with a Habit, out of jail. Our attention was then brought to Stephen Howell, who now owns a large horse ranch on the out-skirts of Chatsworth. Working as Mr. Howell’s hired hands are Mike Scott, Raymond Gerdes, and Perry Augsburger. Picking up a current issue of WOMEN’S DAY, WE recognize the familiar face of Miss Sharon Zorn, who following in her Mother’s Footsteps, has just completed 4 years at Bracken’s Beauty Salon. As a result of her effort Miss Zorn will now be able to work at the Salon with the one and only hairdresser, Miss Nora Bracken. Our gaze now turns to a large building with the words “The 3 K’s” painted in bright letters at the top. What can this be? Oh no!! It’s, Anne Kemnetz, Lorna Kimmel and Patrick Kemmer—3 of the most prominent manufacturers of Kemmilnetz Korn Kurls. But, what are they doing? As we read further we see that they are hiring two new employees-Tom Schlatter and Ronald Snow. Tom was released (fired) from his old job at Nancy Fisher’s Fishery because he kept slaughtering all the fish. Ron quit his job as a Stanley (Hudson) Dealer because everytime he went out to Demonstrate a party it would snow and no one would show up. Just as we were getting up to leave, who should go jogging by us but Mike Hubly and Gabriel Sorenson both out to win the Olympic Title for their country. Going down the road in our car, we noticed a mansion set back away from the road and being nosey, wanted to know who lived there; so we decided to check the mailbox. In doing so, we found out three old retired school teachers, Luann Nussbaum, Doris Brinkman, and Diane Dassow from the U. of C. live there. Arriving back home we realize, by having read the Magazines, how successful and unsuccessful the CLASS of 70 was. 66 Senior Trip 68 Gabriel Sorensen presenting the school with a book about his country. Honors Day Every year at Honors Day, the main event is the induction of new members into the National Honor Society. This year’s new members were Luann Nussbaum, Pat Kaiser, Kay Milstead, Vinell Hughes, Stacy Schade, Kay Hawthorne, Clive Hornstein. Old members were Anne Kemnetz, Sharon Zorn, Jo Beth Hubly, Diane Dassow,Sue Kyburz, Jerry Kurtenbach. New members of the National Honor Society.
