They undertook many money-making projects to build up the class fund. Two of which were selling candy and coffee at the football games and putting the class play on, April 5. One main headache the juniors had was putting on the junior-senior prom which was held on April 27. They also built up their class treasury. They sold Christmas corsages and sponsored Soc Hops. The sophomores also had a conquest. Sponsor Mrs. Alice June Pool The F.H.A. had a very prosperous and exciting year with many highlights that the girls will always remember. One of these was the Daddy Date Night on March 7. It consisted of a potluck supper and games played by the fathers and the daughters. The second highlight was the trip to Chicago on March 16. The girls saw To Kill A Mockingbird , and then spent the afternoon shopping. F.H.A. week, April 1-7 brought great fun to C.H.S. Some of the events that took place were: election of officers, dress up day, and This Is Your Life, Teachers . Last but not least was the F.H.A. Mother-Daughter Tea. After installation of the new officers, there was a fashion show consisting of the articles the girls had made. Fancy sandwiches, cake, and punch were then served by the F.H.A. members. C. The boys also worked hard on their Scrap Drive, Garden Seed Sale, Pest Control Contest and Public Speaking Contest. In the fall the F.F.A. members and their dates enjoyed a hayride. FIRST ROW: P. Kurtenbach Football season brought the band into full swing this year at the home football games. An added attraction was a drum major and three majorettes. The band also played during the half time of the home basketball games. Three concerts highlighted the band's year. They were: a Christmas concert, a Caberet concert, and a Spring concert. Carol Marshall was presented the John Philip Sousa Award at the Spring concert. As a reward for the work done for the Caberet concert, the band and choruses went to the Ice Capades in Champaign on April 20. Careful Linn!! Is that all you have to do? Congratulations Carol! Cheryl, you goofed! CHOR US CABARET C ONCER T A Cabaret Concert sponsored jointly by the bands and choruses on February 23, was the main activity for the C.H.S. chorus of 1962-63. Costumes of the gay nineties were worn by all participants in the concert. Sandwiches, drinks, and dessert, furnished by parents of the students, were sold by student waiters. Old Man River, California, Here I Come, and a duet of In the Good Old Summer Time and Sidewalks of New York, were a few of the numbers performed. Mr. Ed Kapper was Student Council Advisor. The activities which the S. C. undertook were Homecoming Week, the Sweetheart Ball, and the Christmas Party. The Council also sponsored a Student Council Week, April 21 to 27. Each day was set aside as a special day such as Locker Inspection Day or Apple for the Teacher Day. Staff meetings were held twice a month at which assignments were made. Each time the TATLER was printed copies were sent to neighboring schools and interested people. The purpose of the paper is to present a true picture of happenings at C.H.S. This year the TATLER was used as an airing ground for student opinions. It also had a Help column, Uncle Zeke and De De. The Chatsworth Chapter of the National Honor Society initiated its new members on March 19, 1963. The installation ceremony took place in the gym before the student body. The members, their parents, and the faculty were then entertained at a tea which was served in the cafeteria. Fancy sandwiches, punch, coffee, and a cake decorated with the N.H.S. emblem were served by the active members. Knoll, R. With six returning lettermen the Chatsworth Bluebirds overpowered Woodland of Streator 40-7 in the first game of the season. The defending V.V. Champs rolled over their V.V. opponents by sizeable scores. A determined Gilman eleven upset the Bluebirds 12-7 producing a three way tie for the conference championship among Chatsworth, Piper City, and Gilman. CHS finished the season with a 7-0 victory over Chenoa. With an 8-1 record for the season, the Bluebirds won their fourth consecutive V.V. title. The final victory marked the thirty-third win in thirty-six games for the senior players. Koehler, Coach Bishop Chatsworth High School broke the 15 game jinx in Basketball for the first time this year. The Bluebirds won 18 games during the 1962-63 season. The Bluebirds got off to a slow start this year, but picked up during the Chatsworth Holiday Tournament. The Blue birds won second place in the Holiday Tournament. Third place was captured by the Bluebirds in the V.V. Tournament at Onarga January 9-13. The Bluebirds tied for second in the V. V. title race, and had a final record of 18 wins and 7 losses. Lighty, Manager Alan Haberkorn. The 1963 Bluebird track team placed fifth in the V.V. Conference meet at Onarga Military School May 2 and 3. Rodger Ashman broke a V.V. record by running the 880 yard run in 2 minutes and 8 seconds. Jim Koehler placed third in the discus throw and the varsity relay team won second. Chatsworth had total of 23 points. In the District Meet at Ottawa, May 10, Chatsworth had 3 points. Rodger Ashman contributed 2 points with Rodger Ashman a 4th in the 880 yard run, and the Varsity Relay team chalked up another point with a 5th place win. At the Kankakee Journal Invitational May 23 Rodger Ashman placed 3rd and the Relay Team 4th. The track team was second in a triangular meet at Octavia. Although rain poured on the field during the last three quarters of the game, spirits were not dampened. Festivities were begun Thursday evening with a Bonfire and pep rally. The CHS Bluebird Band presented the homecoming halftime show after the rally. Because of the rain the half-time show Friday evening had to be cancelled. CHS and Roberts-Thawville bands participated in the parade Friday evening. Each class was represented by a float. For the third year the class of '64, juniors, won the float competition with Victory Flight. The seniors' Championship Delivery won second. Orbit-uary for the Bluebirds was the freshmen's third place float. Homecoming Queen candidates rode in convertibles in the parade. Homecoming King and Queen, Virg Martin and Dana Kyburz, were crowned by 1961 Royalty, Mike Feely and Ruth Watson. The gym was decorated in accordance with the theme, Bluebirds in Orbit , by the Sophomore Class. Don Adams and his Orchestra provided music for the dance. Homecoming festivities were sponsored by the Student Council. Ann Hubly If Janet Harris and Sally Blair had only known what awaited them, they would never have accepted the strange invitation of Janet's uncle. Professor Snow, to visit him in his old home on the Hudson; nor would Jim Stevens, a struggling young author, have begged the professor to rent him a room there so he might live in a proper atmosphere for his next novel. Votes were cast at the door for one of the six candidates: Rita Kimmel, Carol Marshall, Linn Gillette, Lois Kyburz, Karen Shafer, and Sally Sterrenberg. The climax of the evening was the crowning of LINN GILLETTE, OUR SWEETHEART. BALL The gym was brightly decorated by the Student Council for the ROYALTY DANCE as well as for the many others that were danced that night. The F.H.A. furnished the refreshments. Earl Betourne provided the music and Bernie Deany, S.C. President, was master of ceremonies. A Night to Remember! Hawaiian Misses Virg Martin and Judy Kay Postlewaite Sunse The theme chosen for the Junior-Senior Prom April 27 was Hawaiian Sunset. The Juniors' mothers prepared the banquet which was served by Hawaiian boys and girls. Organ music was provided by Pat Lindquist during the banquet. Each guest received an orchid as a favor. The Junior class president, Warren Gillette, gave the welcome and Jim Elliott, Senior class president, responded. The class will, read by Jim Elliott and the prophecy, ready by Paula Tacconi, were enjoyed by all. The Junior Sextet entertained by singing Blue Hawaii. The cafeteria was lavishly decorated. A wall mural of a mountain sunset had been painted by the Juniors. A beautiful garden furnished a place for for taking photos. One entrance was disguised a a grass shack. A three tiered fountain sparkled during the evening. The guests danced to the enjoyable music of Eldon Baron and his orchestra. Allen Woodward, the prosecuting attorney, presented his case against Barbara Scott who was accused of murdering her employer. The attorney for the defense, Barbara's sister, Edith, skillfully brought out certain facts to prove the innocence of her client. Charles Culkin, president of the board of education, presented the diplomas to the graduating seniors. Mr. Marlin Meyer presented the special awards to the honor graduates. The senior class sang the Chatsworth Loyalty as Jim Kimmel read a poem written especially for the seniors by Mr. Curtis. Following graduation the seniors left for Washington, D.
