In witness hereof, having willed the preceeding superior qualities of a superior class in hopes on improving an inferior class, we the class of 1961, lay our capital X's to this will. s; 3 e X Prophecy It seems so foggy and hazy here. I wonder what can be the matter? Ah! Things seem to be clearing up now. I can't make out everything, but wait, all of a sudden now it is daylight, a beautiful spring day and the sun is shining. Only one thing is wrong, I can't figure out where I am. The surroundings are somewhat familiar but, nevertheless, confusing. Gazing around I see strange things, things I have never seen before. This place seems to be a main street of some city. But, what city? There are all sorts of strange vehicles flying around. My goodness! One of them is stopping! A man is stepping out. I know he too looks like someone I used to know, but it surely cannot be he. He came over to where I was standing and called me by name. Amazed as I was, I was still able to speak. I asked him his name. He replied, Claude Branz. Don't you remember me? We used to go to high school together. Sure enough, it was Claude. Feeling rather foolish, I asked Claude what the name of this huge city was. Thinking I was joking, he laughed and said, Don't be silly. This is Chatsworth, Illinois, in the year of our Lord, 1990. Pretending I knew what he was talking about, I laughed and proceeded to ask Claude where the rest of his old classmates from C. H. S. were. Opening the door of his little vehicle, he said, Climb in and I'll show you. Soon we were on our way zooming in and out on tunnels and skyways. Suddenly we stopped in front of a fabulous nightclub. On glittering letters across the front of the building was written, Hornickel's Hide-a-way. Yes, Mr. Dale Hornickel, the former C. H. S. classmate has turned out to be the wealthy owner of a chain of nightclubs. Dale also employs three other members of his old class, Miss Sharon Hall, the great singing sensation, Kent Fox as his chief waiter, and Miss Andrea Hargesheimer as his chief chef who has made his nightclubs so famous for her cherry pies. While I was visiting the nightclub, Claude introduced me to another old friend, Gerald Martin. Gerald, or shall I say The Mr. Martin, is now Mayor of Chatsworth. ” Being as anxious as I was to see the rest of my former school chums Claude and I went on. Our next stop was a newspaper office. Surprisingly enough the editors of this 60 page daily news were Joyce Hummel and John Smith. While on a tour of the paper, we passed stacks of the latest editions. The editor handed us one announcing the latest successful trip to the planet Pluto by famous Army General, Keith Miller, and his crew consisting of Capt. Bill Fortna, Col. Dale Miller, Lt. Ricky Walle, and Sgt. Albert Endres. Glancing through the newspaper we came upon a column edited by none other than Listening Linda, the former Linda Gillette who has become famous for her logical and sensible advice to the lovelorn. The next few pages of this edition were filled with glittering fashion by the well-known dress designers, Miss Diane Zeller and Miss Shirley Dehm. For some strange reason I feel that we must hurry on with the rest of the tour of the city. Once again Claude and I climbed into his flying machine and were on our way. Soon we landed at an airport where a flying stunt show was taking place, featuring the world-renowned Pink Angels, starring Joan Freehill, Lois Howard and Eileen Birkenbeil. Even more astonishing is the fact that all of these Pink Angels are girls who started out as stewardesses and worked their way up, and I really mean up! The conclusion of this spectacular show features the remarkable musicianship of the Shafer Slick Six Combo. The main attraction of this Slick Six was the appearance of that swinging sax player, Miss Glenda Rosenboom. While zooming along on the way to our next stop, I asked Claude where in the world he got such a car or airplane or whatever this thing is called. He said that this was the newest thing and most extreme model made by the Green Ghost Corporation operated by the one and only Kenny Ashman. Finally we arrived at the last stop. To my surprise it was the old place itself, Chatsworth High School. It surely looked different from way back in 61.” Walking in the school we were met by the principal, Mr. Charles Shoemaker, who introduced us to the struggling young chemistry teacher, Robert Stevens. In the conversation with the new principal of C. H. S. we were informed that Donald (Sugar Ray) Sharp, the former heavy weight boxing champion of the world, had just retired. Mr. Shoemaker said that Sugar Ray always credited his success to his trainer, Francis Boruff, and to his manager of the work-out gym, Ritchie Pearson. As we were walking down the halls of C. H. S. and saying good-bye to Mr. Shoemaker, there came a sudden clamour and ringing of bells. Again everything became misty and hazy. Suddenly I awoke with a start only to find that the bells meant just the ringing of my alarm clock. It was time to get up and start the final school day of my junior year at Chatsworth High School in the year of our Lord, 1961. This also seemed to be the appropriate day to bid the seniors a final farewell. SENIOR Swingin school! Smile, you're on Candid Camera! Wake up little Gerry!
