lt is only now, with our high school years safely behind us, that we the class of 1961 can rellect upon our experiences at'Chatham High School. Those circumstances which troubled and those events which thrilled us'-whether to laughter, to tears, or to sudden awareness-are now merged in our minds on the common ground of pleasant and fruitful years in freedom. And we have everyone to thanlc for this freedom. Qur forefathers created the system of government which provides for us an atmosphere of political and spiritual freedom. Gur parents and the administration have set up a school system under freedom: although the relentless homework assignments never seem to let us escape, our choice to succeed is our freedom. For freedom is choosing the necessary way to our desired goals. The words in our lnoolcs have taught us our lessons in math and French and chemistry, hut we have our teachers alone to thanlc for our lessons in life. Guidance and love cannot spill forth from hoolcsg it was the men and women malcing our school a living institution who, rather than leading us. opened the door for us and pointed to the beautifully open outside Vv'e must not falter now that we have reached the top step heyond these opened doors.
