CLASS HI TORY Thirty nlne months, three weeks, four day s, five hours, and two and seventy seven hundredths sec onds of school hours have elapsed SIIICC we entered the spaclous portals of Xe Olde Chathame Hlghc Schoole as llttle freshmen, 1IlSlgIllHC1llll lll the eyes of the superior Lpper Classmen After much SCl'aIlll'lllllg and COI'lfl1Sl0ll we found seats ln our respective homerooms, our teachers belng Miss Grammes, Miss Jennings, and Doc Eshelman A pep talk followed concerning our new duties and privileges, but the honor of the formerly forbidden first floor and the qulet con centratlon that a study hall should afford were not helped by the 3ddlll0ll of our nolsy class We settled down only long enough to elect I' rank Trombly president Robert f herry, v1ce presldcnt, and Darwin Wood, secretarv and treasurer ino women were g0lIlg to run our classl The custom ary feeling of obstreperousness and lmportance was no exceptlon wlth us, but we soon calmed down under Doc Eshelmans and Poppa Lynch s able guidance We enthuslastlcally responded to all school at IIVIIICS Many of us were athletlcally lnmllned, and all through the year we eagerlv partlclpated ln all the sports soccer, basketball, baseball hot key, and arthery Frank Trombley s rldlculous antlcs and thundering VOICE as a cheerleader, added greatly to our pep at the basketball games In various other fields we were also well erpresent d The Dramatic Club was supported by many members of our class Our orlrflnallty, creatlve ablhty, and wlt soon made themselves evident by our participation lll the already lnterestlnff I halt: r Many of us were caught lll the soclal whirl and added our brazen and llllddlllf' personalities to the soclals and dances Wlth this thought ln mlnd, we gave a class party which d1d much to Dflllg us together ln the Splrll of good fun All these tlllllgi helped the class to become better acqualnted with one another By thls tlme students from the Township and Parochial schools had become ac cllmated to their new surroundings, and the class fllllCIl0IlCd as one unlt The day was soon to come when we would be ralsed to be sophomores, no longer looked down on by the semors sophomores hlCV3tl0Il above the nuserles of belng Freshmen was a great event Looking Down lIlStC3d of Up' Donald Woultl, Darwin W ood, and Louise Norden bolt composed the staff of 0HlC6l'S for the year The turf of the soccer field was torn up by many sophomores, who helped the team to a very suc cessful season On the other end of the field, the glrls were beating the sod Wltll their hockey sticks The volume of the Cheer Leading Squad was lll creased by a few sophomores Large numbers of us elther took part lll or helped wlth the produt tlon of the five one 'uct plays presented by the Dra matic Club Scattered through the f halt: r were COIlIl'll'Nltl0!li by the lIlg6Ill0llS sphomores Our sophomore year was brought to a cllmax by an exuberant day at Sandlass Beach Bllstered noses and flllllflllllf' backs were featured at movlng up day ,lunmrs W hen we entered our Junior year, we had as our home room teachers 'Vhss Suydam, Mrs Hopper, and Mr Bcaudry We elected officers as follows President, Sax Ifrankhn, X108 President, Duck l'ord, and Secretary Treasurer, Loulse Nordenholt Pemmy Seymour represented our class on the Ad vlsory Board Many of our wood athletes played on elther the first or second team ln soccer and were also very actlve on the basketball team Our Jumor glrls dxd a good job ln representlnv the hockey team, and ln splte of the dlfflculty wlth which the glrls had to play basketball, a large number turned out The girls also dld a good Job lll the G A A program, the sutcess of WlllCll, 1t was rumored, was due thlefly to the Junior girls who partlclpated lll ll Much lllt6l'CSt was taken ln the other extra nur rlcular actlvltles such as Dramatlc Club, Clee Club, and Red Cross A large number of JllIll0I' boys and glrls partlclpated ln these essential actlvltles of the school Darwin Wood represented Chatham High qchool at the Red Cross convention at W ashlngton, D C Dllrlllg classes our attention was not always wlth the teachers, but often wandered to the red hot EIGHTEEN ' v 1 ' .
