Glee Club Notes Presldent Myrtle Rxley Secretary Marlon MacCrea Llbrarlan Isabel Straub Every thlrd perlod on Mondays and Wednes days weve probably annoyed you wlth our mu slcal efforts the culmxnatxon of wh1ch was shown at the concert May 8 Even though the Glee Club dxd lose a great many of 1tS old stand by last year thlS year was certa1nly a much better one The success was due malnly I thlnk to two thlngs The work and patlence of Mrs Krause and the cooperatlon and mterest of the glrls themselves We ve had some very lnterestlng experx nces such as Slnglllg' wlth a large chorus of glrls up 1n Morrlstown We sang two very well known splrltuals Roll Jordan Roll and Swxng Low Then too we had the pleasure of smgmg the selectlon Who Is Jean before the Womans 30 Club At Christmas tlme we serenaded Mr Jeter Mr Bates and MISS Durgan wlth Chrlstmas car ols Although It was qulte chxlly we kept our selves Warm by smglng all the more loudly After we had flmshed carolmg we went to the home of one of the glrls for refreshments where all the glrls had a pleasant evenlng Ever slnce Chrlstmas we have been worklng on the cantata The Lady of Shalott The con cert last month was the result of much hard work on the part of Mrs Krause and of the glrls Solos were sung by Murlel Hopplng Isabel Straub Inez Nunn and Myrtle Rlley The stage decorated wxth pretty sprlng flowers was very attractlve We hope that all the glrls wlll come back to Glee Club next yea and that they wlll contlnue to g1VE Mrs Krause the support and cooperatlon that they gave th1S year MYRTLE RILEY 31 . PHE QHATHAM LHATTLR tion Many people would rather work on a com mlttee than be 1n tne plays All who were con nected 1n any way w1th this end of the play were very much interested ln their work and enjoyed doing It Who has not heard of the superb Chat ham High School electricians and scene shlfterso Who has not also heard of the fun they had be hind the scenes '7 A lot of credit must be given to these people who form the foundation for each productron for wlthout them it would be lmpos sible to glV6 plays But the club as a whole feels that most of its success IS due to Mrs Foster who started It and has coached the plays for three years For many months each year she has given her time and patience freely to t1a1n1ng people some of whom have been entlrely lnexperlenced Each year the finished plays have been better and better until this final play Sherlock Holmes Mrs Foster is not returnlng next year Everyone will be so sorry to hear thls but especlally does the Dra matic Club feel lt We feel certam that she can look back over her hree years of coachlng wlth pleasure as each play has been a great credit to her And so since she has done so much for us may we end this artlcle by thanking her with all our hearts DOROTHY KARR 32 Several years ago Flrestone Ford Edison and Burroughs were touring through West Vlfglnla A light on their car went bad and they stopped at a llttle crossroads store in the Buchannan sectlon Mr Ford went into the store to make the purchase What kind of automoblle lights do you have Sald Ford Edison replled the mechant Ill take one sald Ford and by the way you may be lnterested to know that Mr Edison 15 out in my car When the llght y as put IH It was found that a new tire was needed so Ford went back into the store and asked what kind of tires the mel chant had Flrestone was the reply By the way yru may be lnterested to know that Mr Firestone is out ln my car and that I am Mr Ford Henry Ford VVh1le the merchant was putting on the tire Burroughs who had white whlskers leaned ou' of the car and said hood Fvenlng sir The merchant looked up at him with a grin full of sarcasm and sald If you try to tell me you are Santa Claus Ill be Jlggered lf I dont crown you wth thls wrench The Ledger 32 Ninth Semi Annual Confelence North Jer sey Scholastlc P1 ess Assoclatlon At the tune of this conference which was held ln Summit High School May 8 1931 forty two schools were members of the N J S P A as compared wlth sixteen when the orgamzation was organized ln May 1927 Twenty nine of these schools were represented at the conference by one hundred and ninety two delegates Two very helpful addresses opened the conference The first given by Mr A J Bartholomew principal of Surnmlt High School told of the function and mlsslons of the high school publlcatlon The second address was given by Mr Earl W Butler printing instructor ot Summit High School He first gave a survey ot the development of printing and then told how to prepare the copy the best way thereby 1mprov mg relations with the printer After the annual report of the general secretary was glven the conference was divided 1nto numerous clinics They were about the edltorlal page the magazine advertising humor front page make up Jumor hlgh publlcatlon assignments and the sport page The following Monday a Chatter Board meet ing was called and those who went to the varlous clinics pooled the mtormatxon they had secured In this way the entlre board got much helpful ln formation which we hope to use next year 1n pro ducmg a bigger and better Chatter EDWIN KAISER 32 EXCHANGES The current opinion in Chatham Hlgh School seems to be that the Exchange Department is for the benefit of other schools only I do not belleve this for I am sure that our own student body would also enjoy leading the exchanga magazlnes and papers I have noticed that many mdwiduals seem interested 1n the exchange pa them there w 111 be a speclal place tor exchanges ln the book Anv one who would llke to read Joks or stories made up by students of other schools 1n New Jersey nd other states can borrow a few papers ox magazines making sure that they are all re turned I especlally recommend The Optimist of South Slde Hlgh School for good Jokes and plenty of them pers and magazines when I am looking over durlng study perlods From now on case at the rear of Miss Partridge s room Y . 1 1 1 ' V .
