I began gazing at them, and imagining what I saw. Suddenly I realized that I was seeing my classmates of ' 59. What an impressive bunch they have turned out to be: Wesley Hart is coach of N. C. State ' s popular basketball team. Rodney Moore travels back and forth to the moon. He was saying, Look out, boys, we ' re going to crash! Frances Wright still works at Rose ' s dime store. Bobby Beard driving a Ford, and J. B. Oldham in a Chevy , enter all the races at the Darlington, S. C. speed¬ way. Joy Belle Covert a famous model in one of New York City ' s largest clothing s tores. Judy Thames works as a singing nurse in a large hospital! Nancy Sizemore has finally finished a beautician course, and has set up a shop of her own in the heart of Siler City. (At least some of the girls have curly hair now. ) Larry Miller is president of Miller Heating Co. after working as a janitor for five years. Jack Hilliard makes a hundred thousand a year as short-stop for the St. Louis Cardinals. Virginia Pearce is now doing private duty for a young millionaire in the suburban area of New York City. Frances Oldham is married to Roy, and they make their home in Broadway. Can you imagine Paul Owen head chef at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City? Norma Jean Caudle, disguised as a boy, tries to make Wesley ' s basketball team at State, but hasn ' t succeeded so far. Grade Caviness, who has finished a nursing school, is now busy with her half-dozen children. Then there are Margaret and Jane Phillips. They leave their husbands home keeping the house and children while they go out flirting. Norma Jean Clapp works with her husband Lonnie in a large factory. Billy Murchison is doing acrobatic flying in the world ' s fastest jet saying, Boy! this is the life! Gen. Larry Councilman, career officer in the U. S. A.F. , now has command of Lockland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Harry Lee Livingstone has just hit the million point with his first record. Norbert Loflin has just come back from the moon with the honor of being named Scientist of the Year. Ethel Jane Tally, dressed in white attire, scurries about in City Hospital built by the well-known contractor- millionaire, Mack Hancock. Mary Elizabeth Dark is now in Florida where she is a famous artist. She has just finished a portrait of the famous professional football player, Odell Holt, now coaching at the University of Bear Creek. Joanne Phillips designs children ' s clothes at Macy ' s Department store in New York City. Gerald White still drives a bus for the Greyhound Company. Wesley Binkley stays busy on a large ship-scouring the decks! Carl Gaines stands on the comer of Broadway and Fifth in New York City, wolf-whistling at all the blonds and brunettes that pass. Lula Mae Wicker lives in Washington, D. C. and works for the F. B. I. Ann Palmer is a nurse working beside her famous husband, a brain surgeon. J. B. Gilliland has made millions as the successor to Lowell Thomas, Jr., on underdeveloped countries. Brother, he ' s moving fast. Barbara Morrison, believed to be the flirtiest secretary in Sanford, is still not married. Faye Williams has set up a successful beauty salon in New York, and to top that, she has a s et ot pretty blond¬ haired twins! Marie Beard is (believe it or not) the President ' s own private plane hostess (It ' s said that her cute smile got her the job. ) Sue Hefner has gained a few pounds, but is still recognizable. She has no worries about losing her job: her hus¬ band owns the factory that she works in. In the office of the Pepsi-Cola bottling Co. in Sanford, Doris Brewer works. She has borrowed money to buy the plant, so that the drinks will never go out of existance while she lives! Gaither Crissman Cruises up and down the super highways, passing everything with his supersonic, non-door, open-top Chevy. Lucille Moody has married and has five kids. She and her husband are now in the process of building a modem three-story house over Bear Creek. Odis Cockman has recently finished law school and has set up his office in Bonlee. He is offering special price rates to law-breakers of his class of 59. Betty Lou Wilson ' s name appears on the huge billboard of Madison Square Garden as the greatest female basket¬ ball player in the nation. Here ' s a star that isn ' t coming in too clear. Why, it ' s Katherine Wilson and Lois Neal ' s. Their ambition was to become secretaries. Their secretarial work now is keeping the family ' s budget balanced. The next star shows J. C. Hart. The army has finally taken him away from his wife and two little girls; but at present, he is expecting a long-distance phone call from home any minute. He ' s hoping for a boy this time ! Judy Kiser makes a large salary writing for the Greensboro Daily News. She and Hubert are still planning to tie the knot! But when? Why here ' s a star that seems to be having trouble. No wonder! I see Patricia Phillips pulling her hair out, be¬ cause of a mistake in her bookkeeping. Keep trying, Pat! Then I see Jane Caudle. She has married twice, divorced twice; now searching for another victim. At last I see myself, Rayvon King, wishing that I had paid more attention to my teachers in high school. Oh Well, my mother always said I was hard-headed.
