The School In The Community The school is a community within a community. It is a community of students and teachers cooperating in learning experiences. The heart of cooperation is interest, for this is essential to learning. The school is also society's institution for self perpetuation It is logical then, that the direction of instruction is determined by student interests and the dictates of society, the larger community. I Schooling is both preparation for life and life itself. The school's curriculum is as X broad as the total range of life. It is related to life's problems and expectations. It is the school's reponsibility to consider all aspects of man's experiences. The basic skills as reading, writing, and computation arehmastered in the elementary and intermediate grades. Preparation for sensitive citizenship and a place in the work world is made in the upper grades. The school does not moralize. Its function is not to say that this action is right or wrong. It does insist, however, that one' first examine the consequence and then pursue the action this demands. Go and do by direction and purposeg not by default and by chance. The school uses this method because it believes this is the way that truth for the individual can best be realized. What is true and good for the individual remains such for the community because the community is individuals in mass. Mr. Dorsey Brause, Superintendent
