Class History r In the fall of'l938 eleven shy little girls and boys entered the first grade--the class that was destined to be the Seniors of 1950. Donald Eppley, Bill Gerhart, Donna Ross, Lyle Rothhaar, Carol Schnarenberger, and Lester Sheely were among that group. Miss Smeltz, now Mrs. Clady, was our teacher. The next year, as second graders, found us under the guidance of Miss Williams. Our class had lost a few members by this time. The next two years were spent in Miss G11een's room as third and fourth graders. We were beginning to take part in operettas and other school activities. Miss Clutter fMrs. Walimirej watched over us as fifth and sixth graders. Mary Lou Laipply entered our class in the sixth grade. We were finally ready to leave the elementary grades! In 1944 we found ourselves upstairs for the first time. We were now in Junior High! When our first class meeting was held, the following officers were elected: President, Donna Rossg Vice-President, Mary Lou Laipply: Secretary, Carol , Schnarenbergerg Treasurer, Bill Gerhartg News Reporter, Donald Eppleyg and Student Council, Lyle-Rothhaar. Mrs. Shaffstall served as our sponsor. The next year found us as eighth graders with a new member in our class, Virginia Beattie. During the year we joined with the seventh grade in giving a Hallo- ween party at John Beal's. Our officers for this year were: President, Lyle Rothhaarg Vice-President, Lester Sheelyg Secretary, Donna Ross: Treasurer, Carol Schnarenberger, News Reporter, Mary Lou Laipplyg and Student Council, Donald Eppley. Then, after surviving initiation, we were finally in high school. Our Freshman year found us still with eight members. Mr. Lugenbuhl, who had sponsored us as eighth graders, was again our sponsor. Our project for this year was selling seeds. At the end of the year we gave the Farewell Party for the Seniors. Carol Schnarenberger ser- ved as President: Lyle Rothhaar, as Vice-Presidentg Donald Eppley, as Secretaryg Lester Sheely, as Treasurer, and Donna Ross as Student Council Representative for our Freshman year. The fall of 1947 brought a class of eight Sophomores back to school. Virginia Beattie had left the class, but Ruby Agee entered. The class elected Donald Eppley, Presidentg Mary Lou Laipply, Vice-Presidentg Carol Schnarenberger, Secretaryg Lyle Rothhaar, Treasurerg and Bill Gerhart, Student Council. ,Mr. Weber became our sponsor We immediately went to work and gave a hayride for the high school. In November of that year the class went roller skating. Bobby Sox was chosen for a play for us to give at assembly. The Valentine Party was given. Later in the year we went to work with the Juniors to plan the festival. Our Junior year found us ordering our class rings and preparing for our play, Mother Does The Talking . By December we had our rings and were busy planning the Christmas Party. The following months found us making highly secret plans for the Junior-Senior Banquet. We chose lilac and white as our class colors, the white rose as our flower, and After Commencement, Commence , as our motto. The banquet was held at the Sky Club at Mansfield in April. The officers who served us so ably this year were: President, Lyle Rothhaarg Vice-President, Carol Schnarenbergerg Secretary, Donna Rossg Treasurer, Donald Eppleyg and Student Council, Mary Lou Laipply. And then, in the fall of '49, we came back to school as students for the last time. We were finally Seniors! Our officers for our last year in high school were: Carol Schnarenberger, Presidentg Bill Gerhart, Vice-President: Mary Lou Laipply, Secretaryg Lyle Rothhaar, Treasurerg and Lester Sheely, Student Council Representative. Mrs. Durbin served as our sponsor for this year and the last. Right away we started planning the initiation of the Freshmen, which we finally accomplished on October 7. 15
