So here's the Seniors of 1950, I'll review them for you in a jiffy. First in our class comes the president, Caro1's her name and of Chatfield she's a resident. If she isn't there, who her place will fill? I You guessed it, none other than Bill. Among the Seniors there's Lyle the treasurer, Perhaps someday he'll specialize in pleasure. Next in line comes Donna Ross, Of Chatfie1d Echoes she's the boss. Then there was a boy by the name of Les , With an old Model A he likes to mess. There's no need to ask Don what's on his mind, For a pretty girl he's trying to find. Last in our class comes Mary Lou, She's an angel and the secretary, too. We're sure no one could be wiser Than Mrs. Durbin, our advisor. And so we say Farewell with many a sigh, As all down life's road we'1l remember Chatfield High. - - - C-Ma ry Lou Laipply 9 Class Will We, the members of the Senior Class, being stable of mind, strong in body, and wonderful, do hereby publish this, our last- will and testament. A111841 We-a-Q! 14 Class History r In the fall of'l938 eleven shy little girls and boys entered the first grade--the class that was destined to be the Seniors of 1950. Donald Eppley, Bill Gerhart, Donna Ross, Lyle Rothhaar, Carol Schnarenberger, and Lester Sheely were among that group. Miss Smeltz, now Mrs. Clady, was our teacher. The next year, as second graders, found us under the guidance of Miss Williams. Our class had lost a few members by this time. The next two years were spent in Miss G11een's room as third and fourth graders. We were beginning to take part in operettas and other school activities. Miss Clutter fMrs. Walimirej watched over us as fifth and sixth graders. Mary Lou Laipply entered our class in the sixth grade. We were finally ready to leave the elementary grades! In 1944 we found ourselves upstairs for the first time. We were now in Junior High! When our first class meeting was held, the following officers were elected: President, Donna Rossg Vice-President, Mary Lou Laipply: Secretary, Carol , Schnarenbergerg Treasurer, Bill Gerhartg News Reporter, Donald Eppleyg and Student Council, Lyle-Rothhaar. Mrs. Shaffstall served as our sponsor. The next year found us as eighth graders with a new member in our class, Virginia Beattie. During the year we joined with the seventh grade in giving a Hallo- ween party at John Beal's. Our officers for this year were: President, Lyle Rothhaarg Vice-President, Lester Sheelyg Secretary, Donna Ross: Treasurer, Carol Schnarenberger, News Reporter, Mary Lou Laipplyg and Student Council, Donald Eppley. Then, after surviving initiation, we were finally in high school. Our Freshman year found us still with eight members. Mr. Lugenbuhl, who had sponsored us as eighth graders, was again our sponsor. Our project for this year was selling seeds. At the end of the year we gave the Farewell Party for the Seniors. Carol Schnarenberger ser- ved as President: Lyle Rothhaar, as Vice-Presidentg Donald Eppley, as Secretaryg Lester Sheely, as Treasurer, and Donna Ross as Student Council Representative for our Freshman year. The fall of 1947 brought a class of eight Sophomores back to school. Virginia Beattie had left the class, but Ruby Agee entered. The class elected Donald Eppley, Presidentg Mary Lou Laipply, Vice-Presidentg Carol Schnarenberger, Secretaryg Lyle Rothhaar, Treasurerg and Bill Gerhart, Student Council. ,Mr. Weber became our sponsor We immediately went to work and gave a hayride for the high school. In November of that year the class went roller skating. Bobby Sox was chosen for a play for us to give at assembly. The Valentine Party was given. Later in the year we went to work with the Juniors to plan the festival. Our Junior year found us ordering our class rings and preparing for our play, Mother Does The Talking . By December we had our rings and were busy planning the Christmas Party. The following months found us making highly secret plans for the Junior-Senior Banquet. We chose lilac and white as our class colors, the white rose as our flower, and After Commencement, Commence , as our motto. The banquet was held at the Sky Club at Mansfield in April. The officers who served us so ably this year were: President, Lyle Rothhaarg Vice-President, Carol Schnarenbergerg Secretary, Donna Rossg Treasurer, Donald Eppleyg and Student Council, Mary Lou Laipply. And then, in the fall of '49, we came back to school as students for the last time. We were finally Seniors! Our officers for our last year in high school were: Carol Schnarenberger, Presidentg Bill Gerhart, Vice-President: Mary Lou Laipply, Secretaryg Lyle Rothhaar, Treasurerg and Lester Sheely, Student Council Representative. Mrs. Durbin served as our sponsor for this year and the last. Right away we started planning the initiation of the Freshmen, which we finally accomplished on October 7. 15 In November some of us helped the Juniors present their play, Mama's Baby Boy . At the end of the month we had our Senior pictures taken. By January we were all busy working on the annual and planning our graduation exercises. Yes, the Seniors were very busy this year, and then too soon we found we must say Farewell to our happy school years. ----Carol Schnarenberger Class Prophecy It was in the spring of 1960 that I decided to take a vacation out West. I made a reservation on the new streamlined train, the Flyin' Chief . I boarded the train at 5:00 in the evening. When making a tour of the new rocket powered train I learned that the engineer was none other than Lester Sheely. He smiled and shook hands with me and said, This is a little different from the Model A I used to drive, isn't it? I said yes and asked him how the family was. He said fine and told me he had three children. QI'-Iis wife comes from Lykens.l At six o'clock we stopped off at Chicago where I decided to spend the evening, so I went to one of the popular night clubs for my dinner. After eating, I watched the chorus girls for awhile. Right away I noticed that one of them was none other than Mary Lou Laipply! After the show I went backstage and talked to her, and she told me she had married an actor and lived in a big mansion. She also said she had two children. When I went to a hotel I found that the girl at the desk was Donna Ross. She told me she was doing very well and was engaged to the owner of the hotel. The next morning I-again boarded the train and headed for Texas and a dude ranch where I had decided to spend a week. The man who greeted me was Bill Gerhart, a real western cowboy and the manager of the dude ranch. When he showed me around the ranch, I met one of the other dudes for dudesses I should saylv Carol Schnarenberger, a classmate I knew so long ago when I was in Chatfield High. She told me she was married and her husband came from Sulphur Springs. She also said that she had come out West for her vacation and was having a wonderful time. I inquired about the re st of the class and found out that Donald Eppley was in Dixie in the deep South. Bill gave me his address, so -I headed for the South. The next morning I woke up in Miami, Florida, and went to the address I had been given. I found Donald still in bed and was told by hisbutler to come back at ten. When I came back Mr. Eppley was up and was lying on the sofa. He told me he had had a bad night. I asked him what he was doing nowadays and he said he was working at the Stork Club and was doing an impersonation of Al Jolson. After a lengthy visit I decided to head for Ohio where I lived on a farm of my own. My nieces and nephews will inherit my farm because I am still a bachelor, you know. - - -Lyle Rothhaar Class Prophet 16 Recognize us? They sang for the March P.T.A., Christmas Nativity, and the Spring Music Festival Girls' Glee Club The Girls' Glee Club sang at the P.T.A., the Christmas Nativity and have taken part in the Spring Music Festival. 36 ' ' n Mixed Chorus The Mixed Chorus is an organization which is open to any student who is in- terested in, and who enjoys, music. A Membership has been open to all high school students because of the small number enrolled in the upper grades, and also because of the fact that there isn't enough time for rehearsals for boys and girls glee clubs, mixed chorus and a group of selected singers On December 18, 1949, the music groups presented the Christmas program, a carol and tableau service, The Nativity . The chorus was made up of the glee clubs and the mixed chorus while members of the seventh and eighth grades enacted the scenes. On April 14, the mixed chorus sang a group of songs at the Spring Music Festival. Of these numbers, perhaps Clementine is best remembered by the group, because of the difficulties encountered in trying to sing its syncopated rhythm. As a conclusion to its activities for this year, the mixed chorus sang at the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises. 37 Suuds 85A aM 'uaouozv pueq .xno paguasaxd 'quanuaauauuwoa .roy paAe1d osye 'pueq e pa'zgueS.ro azveq am 12143, 12914 1s.u1 91.11 st spql ILL .IR 319 3 .uou a .10 .raqwaux A1 'S UI :BLU . The Freshman girls were initiated and the can- dlelight service was held at this supper. We played other schools in sports. We sold pop, popcorn, candy and potato chips at the home basketball games. We also made posters of the games during the year to distribute around town. In all sports we chose sides and played for4G.A.A. How- ever, with more boys coming up from the Junior High, we hope to improve in a year or so. Reserves The Reserves, with the lack of men, didn't win any games this year.
