SENIOR cuss HISTORY Eight shy,but eager children began their l2years of schooling in September 1937. With our lunch boxes, pencils, and tablets we entered the huge, unfamiliar building. Frightened,but excited with interest we managed to get through the first day, and three of us have gone 12 years-together. As first grade students our class roll included: George Zaebst, Welden Brause, Franklin Zornes, Alice Schneider, Helen Rothhaar, Donna Brown, Eleanor Leonhart, and Phyllis Ostermyer. Our teacher was Miss Smeltz CMrs. Cladyl. In 1938 we began our second year. Having liked our first yearf all our class and one new pupil, Barbara Ehrhart, returned to be Miss Smeltz's pupils again. The next year we had the privilege of moving into a different room. We were now third graders. We had the same class enrollment and Miss Pauline Green was our new teacher. Again we were pupils of Miss Green in the fourth grade. New members in our class includedg Carol Dornbirer and Barbara Mollencopf During this year we had several parties at our teacher's home. Our class grew larger as we entered the fifth grade. Marilyn and Marvel Shumaker and Lloyd and Noveda Agee were new students. Miss Clutter fMrs. Walimirel was our teacher. Franklin Zornes and Helen Rothhaar left our class this year. Our last year in the grades began in 1942. Miss Clutter taught the same students except for two new classmates, Ruby Ages and Nettie Dugger. Lloyd and Noveda Agee, Marilyn and Marvel Shumaker, George Zaebst, and Carol Dornbirer withdrew from Chatfield at the beginning of the year. As frightened seventh grade students we took our seats in our room upstairs. We were now out of the grades and were almost ready for high school. Mrs. Crammer was our class sponsor. Eleanor Laipply, Frances Spears, Harold Brown, Albert McCoy, and Dolores Kreim were new students. We had various class parties throughout the year. Class officers were: President, Welden Brauseg Vice President, Eleanor Leonhartg Secretary, Barbara Ehrhartg Treasurer, Dolores Kreimg Student Council Representative, Phyllis Ostermyer. We gave the plays uFudge and a Burglarn and nThe Ghostsdf Green Mansionn during the year. At Christmas time we had a party at the home of

n' Eleanor Leonhart. This year we selected our present class flower and motto. Barbara Ehrhart moved to Gallon at the end of the year. At the first class meeting of the eighth grade the following were elected to hold office: President, Welden Brauseg Vice President, Eleanor Leonhartg Secretary, Donna Brown, Treasurer, Barbara Mollen- copfg News Reporter, Phyllis.Ostermyer3 and Student Council Rep., Dolores Kreim. Mr. Penn was our sponsor. On December 21, we invited the seventh grade to a Christmas Party at the school. We also had a Halloween party at the home of Phyllis Ostermyer. We acquired one new member, Marilyn Maudsley, and Ruby Ages and Frances Spears left Chatfield School. . After a frightening but an unforgettable thrilling initiation from the seniors, we were members of the high school. Class officers were selected at the beginning of the freshman year: President, Eleanor Leonhartg Vice President, Barbara Mgllencopfg Secretary, Donna Brown, Treasurer, Marilyn Maudsleyg News Reporter, Phyllis Ostermyer, Student .Council Rep, Dolores Kreimg Sponsor, Mr. Penn. Ruby Agee joined our class again in September. We gave the play Wwise Freshmenn at an assembly program and also gave it at Holmes-Biberty. We sold orange and black beanies during the basketball season. May 15, we'gave our fivst high school party. It was the nFarewell Partyn for the Seniors. At the beginning of our sophomore year our treasury consisted of 623.00. We gave a Valentine Party for the high school on February 4. During the year Ruby Agee left our class and Marilyn Maudsley moved to Attica. We sold popcorn at the basketball games. The ninth grade helped us in having a festival in the summer. Officers were: President, Donna Browng Vice President, Eleanor Leonhartg Secretary, Dolores Kreimg Treasurer, Phyllis Ostermyerg News Reporter, Albert McCoy, Student Council Rep,, Barbara Mollencopf. Mr. Penn was again our sponsor. Near the end of the year we ordered our class rings. Seven members began their junior year. Alice,Schneider and Eleanor Laipply withdrew at the close of our spphomore year. Eleanor Leonhart moved to Tiro after the first semester. We gave the play WThe Ador- able Impn on November l4. Mrs. Brown, our sponsor, directed the play. We gave the Junior-Senior Banquet, April SO, at the Rieger Hotel in Sandusky, Ohio. We had the nGay Ninetiesn as our theme. A theater party was held following the banquet. We had the Christmas Party December l7.' An exchange of gifts was held with Santa Claus nanaingu them out. We had a festival again in the summer. Officers during this year were: President, Welden Brause3VYice President, Donna Brown, Sec- retary, Phyllis Ostermyer, Treasurer, Dolores hreimg Student Council, Albert McCoy. Donna Brown, Phyllis Ostermyer, and Dolores Kreim became members of the National Honor Society.
