The vocal groups, under the able direction of Miss Arline Nasby, made their first public appear- ance for the year in la Christmas Concert given December 19. The Senior Girls' Chorus, Girls' Sextet and Boys' Octet attended the music festival at Wykoif on March 29. The district contest was held at Chatfield 011 April 19. Chatfield's eight vocal and instrumental groups, the maximum number which may be entered, received sixty points, the highest number awarded any school in any division. In this contest the Girls' Chorus, the Boys' Octet and Mixed Chorus re- h h ' ceived A ratings and went on to the state contest w ere the Girls' C orus and Boys Octet again received the high ranking of A. During the course of the year, the Girls' Sextet provided music for activities of the various or- ganizations in Chatfield. JUNIOR GIRLS' CHORUS The Junior Girls' Chorus sang between acts of the Junior Play and at the Christmas Concert. The group won an A rating singing The Second Minuet at the music contest.

DECLAMATORY Jean Gwynne Ralph Thorson Lorraine Isensee George Haven On February 6, eighteen people participated in the local contest. A winner for each of the four divisions was selected. The winners and their selections in each division were: extemporaneous speak- ing, George Haven, Jr., Protection for the Nazism: original oratory, Jean Gwynne, Stewardship for Today , memorized interpretative reading, Lorraine Isensee, The House With Nobody In 1t g and Ralph Thorson, The Need of Change , in manuscript iliterpretative reading. Honorable mention was given to Betty McBroom, Marie Rathbone and Kathleen Ellis. Chatfield also came out with flying banners at the district. contest held at Harmony. Ralph Thor- son received superior, Jean Gwynne, Lorraine Isensee and George Haven received very good ratings. At the regional contest in Winona, Jean Gwynne won a superior rating, Ralph Thorson, very good: Lorraine Isensee and George Haven, a rating of good. The three d1'3m3'CiC 0119-aC'C plays Were CO2Ched by Mr. Okey. On March 10, they were given for the public. Sauce for the Goslings was a humorous play showing the trials of parents with the modern children. Sparkplugs looked into the I'Omantic side of life, while The Neighoors proved that things of importance on the serious side of life for some, often lead to a happy ending for others. MIXED CHORUS The Mixed Chorus is Composed of students in the Senior Hih School. In the district contest, the group received an A rating, and in the state contest a H rating. McConnell, Schermerhorn, Jackson, L. Eickhoff, E. Schaefer.

A CHATFIELD HIGH SCHOOL BAND The band, under the direction of Mr. Arsers, received an A at the annual District Music Contest. Also receiving A's were the Brass Sextet and Woodwind Quintet. This made the three groups eligible for the State Contest May 3rd held at Minneapolis, where the band and woodwind again received an A rating.
