CO-CHAMPIONS The imperial Longhorns climaxed their successful 48 49 basketball season with the winning of two trophies We were proud of our team and coach when they won the first place trophy in the Frenchman Valley Tourney and Second place trophy in the South Platte Valley Tourney In the F.V.T. Imperial won victories over Palisade Parks Trenton and met the Benkelman Tigers in the finals to beat them in a hard fought game 35-27. It was a big night for C.C.I-LS. Larry Dunning Wayne Weaver and Don Winklemann were chosen for the All-Tourney Team. At Ogallala the Longhorns scored wins over Sutherland and Chappell. These wins made Imperial elegible to play in the finals of the S.P.V.A. Our boys put up a good struggle but the Grant Plainsmen maintained their lead throughout the game and won the S.P.V.A. Championship. But we came home with Second Place and were mighty proud. The two new trophies added to our trophy case will long remind us of the exiciting and successful 1948-49 basketball season. At the time of this writing we still iave the Class B District Tourney and State Class B Tourney to play. -37-
