CLASS HISTORY The Covered Wagons Roll Rxght Along The wagon train pulled up in front of CC H S in September of 1945 to take the 49ers for a trip Slxty seven eager Freshmen set forth ln the covered wagons to make a place for them selves We had two capable guides Mrss Cur tis and Mr Shaeffer to lead us onward After days of rough going we had a Roller Skatrng Party to relax us As we contlnued we found that Herbert Brewer Margert Sandal Leora Sitzman Iunlor Wheeler and Margarette North had stayed behind but we had pxcked up Eldon Grlmes who Joumeyed on with us We travel onward!! Ever Onward!! We stopped for a Carmval sponsored by the Semor Class For our concesslons we had a Penny Prtch Dart Throw and raffled off a bond Thus we had crossed our f1rst barrxer And the Covered Wagons Rolled Rrght Along mto our Sopha more year The seasons also rolled along wlth us it tumed cold very cold Day after day of dreary travel before we stopped to rest Near us was a large pond so we dug mto our trunks for our lce skates and all went xce skatmg but the next day we again had to go new found Mr Dill and Mr Brady as our guldes and Leroy Adams Beverly Bonner Patty Duy sen Elmer Hessman Eldon Gnm s Eugene Hudnall Robert Lock Vernon Splitt and Dwlght Welch were not w1th us as we moved forward however Lawerence Dunmng Wanda Hanmgan and Bertha Weaver tolned us Many days we travel ln times of sadness but mostly the sound of laughter prevailed We once more stopped for the School Carnival Thls txme we had the Flsh Pand and Noveltles We succeeded ln chmbmg the second barrxer And The Covered Wagons Rolled Right Along mto our Iumor year and what a road was ahead for us! ll The year started off with a bang and we do mean a BANG No sooner had we left the second station when a savage band of lndlcms attacked us We took on some new soldiers Iohnny Wood Dwight Welch Eldon Grimes and Margaret Andrews who readily iotned the fight XVe were vrctorlous but Wanda Hannigan Lawrence Dunning Gordon Harsh barger and Iohn Fisher were left behmd Also we lost the two guides but we found two more Mrs Benson and Mr Hutton who led us The road became somewhat smoother now and we stopped for a party We con tlnued into unknown lands Then we reached one of the bnghtest spots of our travel The class play The Cry of the Banshee which was presented wlth much success and will long be remembered by all of us We stopped once more to take part in the School Carnival This ttme we had a Raffle of a radio Telegrams and Carmval Queen Another very bright spot on our way was the Iunlor Senior Ban quet and Prom We left the land and our theme for the Banquet was an Ocean Lmer Thus clxmaxxng endrng and crossing our thrrd barrler And The Covered Wagons Rolled Right Along mto the fmal strech of our Joumey However we were headlng down mto a valley and 1t was ramxng q'l11l9 heavlly There were flood waters all along the route now and the go1ng was get tmg tougher and tougher For days we traveled rn mud and ram and then the sun agam beam ed down on us Look1ng back Mrs Benson and Mr Lantxs were gurdmg us but l.1la Bloom Gerald Brewer Els1e Watts and Henry Mol zahn were lost rn the storm Coy Birdsall Eldon Cook Lawerence Dunmng and Mary Munn Jumped aboard to contlnue the Joumey with s Among the travelers were found many officers and honorees including the President Pep Club Student Councll and National Honor Soc1ety Vlce-President of the Student Council Dramatlcs Club l Club and Y TEEN and FFA S cretary of the Student Councll and I Club There were two cheer leaders four flag swingers two members of the Gxrls Trio A group of the travelers presented a fme class play and gave a brllllant performance Then we sponsored the School Carmval and we had the Bingo Stand Cake Walk and Door Fees The next few days were ones never to be forgotten at CCH S There was our Sneak Day and then the fmal moments were at hand A frne banquet and prom was given ln our honor by the Iunlors Next came Class Night when the valedictorlan and salutatorian were recogmzed and when the 49ers presented their last program as travelers rn the wagon tram of CC H S Baccalaureate services proved that we were near the end of our journey O May 18 1949 the members of the Senior Class of 49 donned their caps and gowns and for the last time appeared as a class group to receive their dlplomas The road now before us is very smooth but only for a short way For xn the dlstance there are two roads the one to SUCCESS and the other to FAILURE The choice is up to each one of us individually l4 II I II I I .... . , .
