The main projects of the Student Council for the school session 1949- 1950 are: the sponsoring of a May Day, and the improvement of conduct in assembly programs. Another item they plan to include on their program is the distribution of Student Council handbooks to all high school students. {■■iHritK 1 , m ■ jL IJ J TIte l eta (3luh The Beta Club is a leadership-service organization for high school students. It has as its ultimate aim to stimulate and assist its members to continue their educations after high school. Being eligible to be a member of this club is an honor to anyone since its membership is based upon good mentality and char- acter, creditable achievement and a commendable attitude. The Beta Club of Chase City has done much to further its service to the school and community. It sponsors Bangle Day of the National Tuberculosis Association each year. Also it assists in the library and sells school supplies. As well as participating in these activities Beta members are active in other clubs. There are thirteen Beta members active on the Highlights Staff, sixteen in the Drama- tic Club, seven on the Student Council, ten on the Annual Staff, and twenty in the Choral Club. Besides being active in club activities many Beta members are outstanding in sports. Convention at Kansas City, Mo. They were Billy Park who represented the Southside Federation, Ed Rutledge, who represented the Chapter of Chase City, and Manual Black who won his trip for State Field Crop Judging. Our chapter is proud of three boys that are headed to the top in forestry judging. They are Hal Boldin, Harold Boldin, and Alton Hipps. They have won in the county, and district meet and are working to win the state contest at Lynch- burg in the spring.
