Wade Bowers £ One dreary day not so long ago, when there was nothing else to do, I crept up the stairs and into the school attic. It was gloomy and covered with dust, and yet a strange kind of fascination seemed to draw me on. The first thing to catch my eye was an old register and upon opening it, I found it to be our freshman roll. Running my fingers down the line I found there were twenty-six boys and thirty- seven girls who had started with me on the long journey through four years of high school. There were loads of old examination papers that we bad wrinkled our brows over and they have the marks of such teachers as Mrs. Hilda Collins, Miss Lottie Brockwell, Mrs. Elizabeth Eubank, Mrs. Garland Owen, Mrs. Pfeiffer, Mr. Chuchek and Miss Watkins. There were old programs of chapel plays, many of which remind us of the times we have stood before the students of C.C.H.S. with our knees quaking. However, we always enjoyed the glory of those undertakings ! There was a geography book that had the signature of Principal Byran T. Reese in it, and my mind Hew back to the early spring day in ’4s when the entire school bore the shock ot his death. Mr. Frank Chuchek at once took his job and has seen us soberly through our four years. There were place cards from the banquet we gave the seniors last year. Oh, how we wished we were in their places as they walked to the stage in their robes and caps. Ah, and alas! Here were some objects with only a little dust on them, for they were souvenirs of our senior year, and what a year it was! Well never forget it! There was the hub-bub of class elections, the three changes in government teachers from Mrs. Pfeiffer to Miss LeGrande, and finally to Mrs. Keeling. There are memories of tiring practices for the senior play, and the wonderful junior-senior party. Some one had added some of our graduation programs and it was with a feeling of pride and regret that I gazed at them. I remembered the slow walk down the aisle to the stage and the presentation of diplomas, Yes, we were actually leaving C.C.H.S. Juanita Champion Historian £enia i £fxaa iesiid,m £ Once there lias a wrincipal named Mr. Chunk Eluchek, and he was the loudest pleader of sorty-fix seniors, disc- and wignified. The first soung yenior was named Birvin Erry, and he lasn ' t wittle at all. Mr. Gluchek cried to get everyone, including Garshall Moehegan to work, hut he was always petting the Mran.es bixed up, what with Hade, Warlcne, Warper, and the Melcanor, but he didn’t have tuch wouble with one Trankley. Nearly severy enior stooel sor fomethmg outstanding. Bathryn Kynum, Cynona Waiter, L. B., Jeba, and Ruanita chere wampions, and Chorgan was always niewning. T. C. was nuch a sice Nellis. Among the G ' s gerc Warner Warnctt, Woeghegan, Wregory, Wrimes, and Wrydcr. The quietest of the H’s was Rillie Luth. I.arinie Hee and a Loyle and a sood ginger, but it a wascball bizzed by his ear, the krincipal pnew Bartha Mingram was at bat. The only Leffreys was Jazey, and the only Hates was Kenry. Wora was an limp, and Wcggy pas a Dawson instead of a laughter. Houise Hipscomb w f as the quietest and dost mignified. Loward hoved Mulia Anne JuKinney. Mallace Wathers las weaslingly plump, and Annie Mee Lull was so swind and keet. Garleen had the diggles tost of the mime, and Mayson Grullins the wills called a golf. What ponfused the crincipal mery vucli was that Pi Ida was a Halmer;Pora, a Noole, and Sethel, a Mith. But Tada Unstall — that was a name that plabbergasted the frincipal. Laisy Dyle and Wirginia Vard vere wery reasy to emerr.ber. So vere Wangie Vatts and Woris Ditlow. Wimmy Jilkerson had a wrin that gade him fany mriends and Wertrude always wid Dinn. The only other prabel the lincipal rad to hemember was Vouise Loung, and you thould wink this would be the trast of his loubles, but kon t did yourself. These sorty-fix seniors gray maduate, but there are sorty-fome juniors bumping into their joots. Lo-Song !
