September l2, l968 Dear Diary, As usual, I was seated in front of the TV, ready to watch my Sunday night favorite, Big, Big Universe. But, I waited with unusual anticipation. This was the big eveningg the program was featuring my class of '56 of CHS as the average class from a small school having its beginning on the National Highway, U. S, 40. Each member of the class was on the screen and I learned what the gang has been doing these twelve years. Sandra Owings, always famous for her figure, I remember, was modeling the creations designed by the master in this field, Lloyd Young. Linda Peffer and John Scott are noted writers. John's most recent novel is Dig My Latest Dream. Linda is the author of the best seller, How to do Things the Speedy Way. Several members were recognized for their musical talents: Ann Athey is the first lady to play in the Band of America, and Gene Holliday has replaced Snooky Lanson on Hit Parade. Snooky was getting squeaky Barbara Bledsoe has joined the Gilette Quartet and sings TV commercials during the World Series. Mary and Martha Mooney are leading songs for Billy Graham's religious services. Leon Seely is a most proficient cas- tinet player and is with the Bone Rattlers at Hernando's in South Africa. Some of the gang have entered the field of competitive sports. Ann Couch is practicing for the Olympics where she will enter the pole vaulting event. Fred Muegge has organized a top professional basketball team, The Westland Globe Spinnersg Jim Shoufler is the center for this team. Shirley Oneal and Jean Young are bronco busting for a western rodeo. Beverly Beeson has trained to be a lady wrestler. Kenneth Griffith has just finished a picture of Beverly Beeson that is to be reproduced for billboards, ad- vertising her debut in Madison Square Garden. He operates one of Indiana's largest photographic studios. Martha Edwards' artistic ability parallels that of Grandma Moses. She designs Christmas cards for Hallmark. Inventors and designers do come from small towns, Julia Holliday designs dresses exclusuvely for the tall girl. Daught Roler has invented a formula that can be injected into rabbits to dye their fur the color of mink. She raises rabbits. Marilyn Cook is manufacturing jet aircraft for the Navy. Pauline Wicker and Ruth McDaniel have taken to the air. Pauline is navigator on a space ship at Disney- land. Ruth is piloting a helicopter that rescues shipwrecked men from the sea. She is really intrigued with her work. Pat Haywood has excelled in agriculture. She is now cultivating 3, OOO acres of cabbages to be pro- cessed for the Hollis Sauer Kraut Cannery. Rowena Silver has just returned from the International Live- stock Exposition, where she received a grand champion placing on her Hereford Steer. Marilyn Delhagen is the editor of Superman Comics. She got her start with the Charlottesville Eagle News. Barbara Davis manages a well-known children's clinic in Indianapolis. The program was concluded with an interview with Miss Raines, our sponsor. She said it had been so hard on her nerves guiding us through school that she had retired from teaching and now trains lions for Barnum and Baily Circus. She finds it much more relaxing. A My name was mentionedg the only one not there. It was good to see them all, even at long distance. Surely wish I could have visited with them at their party after the program, but I had to take care of my family-five sets of twins keep me so busy. Beverly Ann Poge 20
