CLASS HI TORY In September 194.3 Charlottesvrlle School welcomed a new r lass of wlde eyed fxrst graders taklng the r f1rst gllmpse of school l1fe We had no way of knowtng of the joys and sorrows that would come our way before that Bxg Day May 6 1955 Among that wxde eyed group were lrttle Phlllp Apple Bob Cooper Larry Fox Charlotte Hudson Paul Johnson Jean Krdwell Charlene Garrett Lauralee Woods Ruth Wyse Arlene Sxmmons and Janlce McClarnon Our teacher was Mrs Btnford Sandra Arnold Jo ned us th1s year Our second grade teacher was Iulla MeC1arnon Whrle we were rn the second grade one of our students Jamce McClarnon was kllled by a truck whlle returnlng home from school In the thrrd grade we had as our teacher Mrs Emlly Wllson Martha Mlller from Westland and Don Nrcely of Greenfreld Jomed us thrs vear When we were 1n the fourth grade Delorrs Johnson and Charles Low Jorned the class Our teacher was Mrs Hazel Wlllrams James Hartzell from Wllkrnson and Davld M1ller from Terre Haute also jolned our class durlng thrs year In the frfth grade we had as our teacher Mrs Ruth Vestal We were Jolned by several students from Westland School Wh1Ch had burned the wrnter before Among them were Daytd Cook Dorothy Wrllard Paul Easton and Joe Wrlson In the srxth grade we were Jorned by Kenreth Buscher from Carmel Indlana and Brll Gr1ff1th from Our seventh grade sponsor was Mr Smrth We were Jorned by some more Blue Rrver Townshrp students who had been attendrng Brandywme School They were Roger Beyers Kelth Brown Marlene Deck Tom Freeman and La Donna Radclrff We were also Jomed by Davld Scott from Indranapolrs In the elghth grade we had Mr Cox as our sponsor As freshmen Mr Cox agam was our sponsor We were Jomed by Ruth lsgrrgg from Huntlngton Indtana and Carolyn Plank from Wrlkxnson In our sophomore year we were jolned by our sponsor Mr Joe Douthltt At the end of thls year Paul Easton moved to Greenfleld and Joe Wrlson moved to Sp1ce1and In our Jumor year we were Jorned by Ruth Strne from Greenfreld Everett Delhagen from Maxwell and Norma Meredxth from McCroy Arkansas and re Jomed by Mary Hughes from Sloux Cxty Iowa Mary had attended here ln earller years Early rn our jumor year La Donna Radclrff wrthdrew from school to be marrled As Jumors we worked hard to make money We presented our Jumor play The Ghost of Roarrng Prnes At the end of the year Carolyn Plank moved to Mays Indrana Then came the greatest year of all At the begmmng of the year Sandra Arnold wrthdrew to be marrred We had our senlor pxctures taken and started work on our senror play Then a black cloud fell over our class when Arlene Simmons one of our classmates was kxlled rn an automobrle accrdent We later pre sented the play No Boys Allowed whrch had been postponed We worked on our annuals and sold subscrrptrons for them We ordered our caps and gowns and commencement and baccalaureate rnvrtatxons We also worked pretty hard at our lessons to be sure we would graduate Now as a class of twenty nme we are lookrng forward to graduatmg takxng our tnp and Jommg the Charlottesvtlle Alumnr to be remembered as the Class of 55 Martha Miller Hlstorlan .
