Being iitterv in this, our first game, we never could get our running game going antl we plaved prettv much a defensive game. Standouts in the line were lirazzell, Butler, and Co- faptain Kennerlv, while 11elms and Carter drew praise for their hackfield play. EAST 8-19 .Xfter losing to Harding, the XVolves faced a less formidable opponent. After a mediocre first half, in which we spotted the East Eagles a touchdown and a safety, we roared back in thc last half with 19 points. Hartsell, Brown, Kennerly, and Brazzell looked good on the forward wall, while Helms, Moser, and Carter sparked the backfield. Carter took the T.D. honors with 12 points, while Moser scored 6 with XVhite atlding 1'..X.T. CENTRAL 39-7 XVith the taste of victory still in oLtr mouths, we took on the Central lVil:lcats. Again hampered bv lack of reserves, we linallt gave way to the YVildcats after holding them prcltv ttell the first quarter bv marching tlirectlv downfieltl and matching a touchdown with Central. Helms scored from a sneak and Vllhite added the P.,-LT. .Xfter this Central had it much their own wav because of excessive manpower. Shining for the forward wall were Brown, Kennerlv, Btazzell, Bell, antl Hartsell, while Helms, Carter, and Moser were again the standouts in the backfield. GASTONIA 32-0 Still feeling the sting of our second defeat, we met the Green XVave of Gastonia. The score alone doesn't indicate the kind of game plaved. VVe lost three touchdown chances while the Castons romped for pavdirt. XVe made more first down than the three previous opponents of Gastonia combined but couldn't click when it was needed. XVork horses for the backfield were Honey Boy Helms, Don Carter, and Vllatts, while Butler, Joe Fowler, and llrazzell were hustling for the line. KANNAPOLIS 36-6 If there was one game that we should have stayed-in-bed from, this was it. VVe cou1dn't gather an ounce of offense and the defense was almost as bad. It was the Kannaps' game all the wav. The only scoring we did was a long pass from llelms to Vllatts in the closing seconds of the game, for we failed in the attempt for extra point. PARKER 39-10 Going on our first out-of-town trip, we met Parker High of' Greenville. Beset by heavv iniuries, we fought a stronger .XAA foe, who had it prettv much their own wav. YVe cou1dn't gather any scoring punch except for XVhite's kicking a field goal after we missed the trv for a touchdown in the first half. .Xfter the half it was prettt' much see-saw up and down the field. lK'e scored onlv once more, with Honev Bov hitting lfildie XYatts with a beautiful pass and lYhite adding the P..-X.T. NORTH 12-6 .Xfter losing four straight, we traveled to Davidson, hoping to cop a tietorx from an opponent more nearlv in our otxn Page Sixty four class. After letting North score twice in the first half, we couldn't muster an offense. After the halftime we settled down btlt still cou1dn't crack the touchdown door. Late in the fourth quarter Bill Bullet Iirawlev fell on a blocked kick in the North end zone and scored the lone touchdown we got. lirazzell, Butler, Kennerlv, Plumlev, and Bell plavcd well for the line, while Helms, X'Vatts, antl Hicks paced the backfield. HANES 27-13 Still in the losing column, but fighting hard, we met Hanes in YVinston-Salem. Vllhile we were unable to start a touchdown movement in the first half, Hanes made haste and scored 2.1 points before the gun. After halftime Hanes again scored in the earlv minutes. VVe finally mustered an offense and made two long drives downfield for touchdowns, with Helms going over for both scores and VVhite adding P.A.T. Big guns up front were Brazzell, Kennerly, Butler, Plumley, and Bell, Whilt Helms. VVatts. and hloser again took the honors for the backs MYERS PARK 6-14 Our homecoming, being combined with Mvers Park, was a verv pleasant affair. Vlfe began strong bv gaining large chunks of yardage and we hit patdirt for 14 points the first half, while the Mustangs could tnuster little ofl'ense. Helms seoretl on a quarterback sneak in the second quarter for our first, and Ulhite added P.A.T. The onlv other score for us came again in the second quarter when Helms hit NVhite with a pass and XVhite promptlv added P..-MT. After the halftime we held thetn prettv well except for their scoring on a shot pass. Numerous penalties kept us howling at touchdown's door that night. Standouts for the forward wall were Brown, Bell, Hart- sell, Brazzell, joe Fowler, and Butler, while Duncan, Helms, Vt'atts, and Ken Fowler held thc backfield down. VVEST 0-18 XVith but two days' practice under our belts and two wins, we traversed bv wav of the Blue Beetle to Richards' Field to meet the VVest High Indians on XVedncsdav night. Yvith an offense that ran hot till we got to the goal line, we pushed over only 6 points in the first half. VVith our running 51211116 picking up big chunks of yardage, we scored two in the thirtl quarter to put it on ice and to hold the Indians verv well. ice Plumlev, Hartsell, Kenncrly, Brown, llraucll, Butler, anti lllhite shone for the line, while Helms, Nloser, and Hicks sparkled for the backfield. Moser led the T.Il. honors with two while Helms made one. NIT. AIRY 33-14 Going into the last game of the season with two straight wins, we faced Mt. Airv on November 17. This being the last game for some of us, we were trying to and the season with a win. Mt. Airv had other plans and, with unerring accuracv. passed for most of their vardage antl touchdowns. It was onlv after the half that we got rolling and scored two touchdowns via passes from Honev Boy Helms to XVhite for the first and another to Fred Mullis, who was the onlv unanimous choice from Tech for a first string berth on the All-City Squad. Standouts in the line were Hartsell, Kennerlv, llrazzell, antl Xlullis. Doing as well for thc hackfield were Helms. XVatts. Hicks, and Kloser. -llouxxv 1'i-wsu I..
