LAST WILL AND TESTAIVIE T STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA COUNTY OF MECKLENBURG CHARLOTTE TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL CITY OF CHARLOTTE We, the Senior Class of nineteen hundred and forty-two of Tech High School, being high-minded and having completed our high school education, do hereby make our last will and testament. ARTICLE I To our teachers we leave our sincere thanks for all they have done for us, as well as our deepest sympathy for the loss they will suffer through our departure. A To Miss Wheeler, Miss Balle, and Miss Pridgen we leave our best wishes and appre- ciation for their patience and guidance and all that they did to make our Senior year a successful one. ARTICLE II ' To the class of 1943, we leave our enviable record, and bequeath them the right to be presented a diploma at the end of next year's work, if they deserve one. To the Sophomores, we leave our thoughtful minds. To the Freshmen, we bequeath our hardships and heartaches. To the Sub-Freshmen, we leave our deepest sympathy. ARTICLE III In addition to these general bequests we are moved to make special mention of certain of our friends whose distressful condition has touched our humble hearts. Jean Sherrill wills her crutches and happy-go-lucky attitude to Lois Rushing. Ruth Dunn wills her knowledge of French to Peggy Huff. Le Verne Jones wills her heartaches from soldier boys to Sarah Hasty and Mildred Stegall and hopes they find more comfort than she did. Louise McCall leaves her good looks and ways with the men to Martha Wright. Ann Lewis Helms leaves her name as the cutest girl in the Senior Class to Nettie Stevens. Miriam Smith leaves her mischievous pranks to Tom Brown. Billie Helms leaves her position as cheerleader to Regina Barbee. James Ferguson leaves his arguing ability to W. C. Thomas and hopes that W. C. makes a hit with Mrs. Kistler and her English grades. Peggy Pope leaves all her A's to Reid Phillips and hopes Reid doesn't get too smart. Ray Selvey leaves his cooperative spirit and good grades to Roy Berry. George Reynolds leaves his name as the best looking boy in the Senior Class to Harry Hooper. William Thomas wills his ability to annoy the ladies to James Stevens. Lewis Moser bequeaths his football ability to Earl Sechler, and his ability as a machinist to George Baker. Betty Jean Ridenhour leaves his exceedingly good looks to Irene Smith. Charles Bradshaw wills to Ruth Rowland his seat in second year shorthand and to the editor-in-chief of the 1943 TECHNIQUE his frost bitten toes and turned up fingers. Sadie Carnes leaves her beautiful black hair to Ruth Conder. Frances Webb wills her seat in American History to Evelyn Taylor. Annie Louise Law leaves her A's in shorthand to Juanita Propst. Carl Hice leaves his pleasing voice and vocal cords to George Smith. Thomas McCall wills to Billy Plummer his afternoon job. To Mildred McDonald, Madge Bright leaves her senior dignity. It has just been announced that Norma Moser, former Girl Reserve at Tech, will take charge of all the Girl Scout Troops in the United States. The Associated Press has picked Miriam Smith and Billie Helms as the women athletes of the century. Miami-Dorothy Perry, who has always had a knack for art, is now modeling for James McCoy, who has been called by experts another Raphael. U. S. S. North Carolina-David CSlugD Holmes joined the navy to see the girls, but so far he has seen only the girl framed on the wall over his hammock. CThe oliicers say that he is so bad that every time the ship docks he has to be put into the brig.J Hollywood-Dot Carpenter has been selected by the young men from colleges all over North America as the oomph girl for this year. Vassar College-Believe it or not, but Robert CRomeoj Gray has just been appointed president of Vassar College. He is happy over the whole thing. Immediately after his appoint- ment Gray selected one of his old classmates, Lawson Threatt, to be in charge of the physical education. Lawson is confident that he will produce winning teams. Charlotte-Louise McCall is still a hard working girl. She could get married. but she doesn't know whether she wants to live in Charlotte or Mount Holly. Jacksonville-It was officially announced here today that Lura Simpson is married. She married a soldier from Florida whom she met while the maneuvers were being held in the Carolinas. New York-Thomas Wilson and his band arrived here after a triumphant tour of the country. Wilson has become famous as a trombone player and his band is considered one of the best in America. It was reported from Reno today that Charles Bradshaw has just untied another couple. Charles was such a good lawyer that he was made judge soon after he began his legal career. Because he believes that no one should be unhappy, he sets unhappy men and women free from bad marriages. i Chicago-The manager of the Chicago Bears announced that Lewis Moser would be with the Bears next year. Moser, twice all-American, played with the Charlotte Clippers this year and caused them to win the pennant. Charlotte-It was reported today that William Thomas, once a small fellow, will be the main attraction on the mat card at the Armory Auditorium. A win over the Angel will make him king of wrestlers. Washington-Ruth Dunn and Pauline Mason are operating the library of the Smith- sonian Institute. They both received their training in this kind of work in the library at Tech. The President announced from the White House today that he has appointed a new member to his cabinet. The new member, Ruby Harding, is considered to be one of the most brilliant women of her time. She has done much to prove that a woman is useful to the government too. Brooklyn-Lewis Crump has again been elected the National League's most valuable player. Twice he has held this honor and three times he has been selected the swat king of both major leagues. New York-Carl Hice is singing Beans in the Metropolitan Opera House these days, and the place is packed and jammed every night by people who come especially to hear him. St. Louis-Edwin Deacon Kerr is doing a lot of pitching for the St. Louis Sparrows, but he thinks his place is in the pulpit and is planning to retire from baseball soon. .Indian Trail, North Carolina-Willene Worrell and Doris Brown are living here since their marriage to two wealthy gentlemen. They are entertaining as elaborately as the Astors ever thought of doing. New Orleans-Worth Preslar, master psychologist and philosopher, is spending his vacation here. Mr. Preslar's advice and suggestions make women over the United States happy again. Boston-Margaret Grass, chairman of the Women of the Home, held a meeting here today. These clubs have a tremendous amount of infiuence in the affairs of the American home. Fort Boast-Alice Horne is very popular here. She just finished her third year as hostess. One day someone asked her why she did not get married. She replied: I am now enjoying the company of many good-looking soldiers. Why should I give them all up for one? Sacramento-Juanita Lackey is flying high these days. She is a capable stewardess on the Pan-American Clipper Flag Ship, Quicksilver. Raleigh-Miss Sara Ruth Brown has recently been appointed to the position of adviser for Student Government organizations over the State of North Carolina. Rio de Janeiro-Thomas McCall, a guy that every one at Tech liked very much, is a big success as a good will ambassador to South America. Charlotte-My agent in Charlotte writes that Madge Bright, Ruth Selvey and Hazel Jenkins are teaching in grammar schools. Joe Christenbury leaves his name as one of the best-dressed boys in the Senior Class to Wilford Kistler. Peggy Simpson leaves her name as one of the leading students of the school to Daphne James, and her athletic ability to Dorothy Torrence. Juanita Lackey leaves her ability to look on the brighter side of life to Ernest McSwain. Jack Holleman leaves his physics book and intelligent mind to Max Cobb. Sarah Ruth Brown leaves her good name and science course to Betty Fulbright. Dorothy Carpenter leaves her neatness and attractiveness to Edna Wright. Lottie Mae Griliith wills her human nature to Carl Sawyer. Elizabeth Purser leaves her red-headed boy friend to Syvella Helms. To Bernice Batts, Norma Moser bequeaths her quietness. Worth Preslar leaves his American History grades to Horace Boger and his ability to ride a bicycle to Murphy Mauney. Hazel Wells bequeaths her salesmanship ability to Betty Elliott. James McCoy wills his bashfulness to Jimmy Kerley. M 1Marcus Yandle leaves his position as Senior Class President and business man to Mack oy e. Charles Wright leaves his eyes for the ladies to Worth Austin and hopes Worth doesn't have to purchase glasses. 4 Joe Brackett wills his married life to Ray Miller. Frances Smith wills to Gretchen Carson her closed mouth. Thomas Wilson leaves his big feet and head to Eugene Ross. Ruby Harding leaves her dimples and attractive figure to Mildred Oates. Hazel Jenkins wills her name as a flirt to Rebecca Martin. P lk Ray House leaves his popularity as a member of the band and Mixed Chorus to H. B. o . David Holmes wills his wise cracks to Duane Bartlett and his ability to shoot pool to Davis Thomas. Margaret Grass will her good grades and ability to make friends to Harriet Williams. H. P. Roberts leaves his good looks and popularity to Benny Shaw. Lewis Crump wills to Oren Sanders his gentleman-like manners. Edwin Kerr leaves his right-end of the football team to Robert Wentz. Alice'Horne wills to Delora Adams her position as an important member on the paper-carrying committee. Willene Worrell wills her stern attitude and good grades to Irvine Hager. Ruth Selvey leaves to Margaret Edge her pleasing disposition. Howard Worrell leaves his athletic skill to George Belk and his name as the wittiest boy in the Senior Class to Ray Ward.
