CLASS PRUPHEEY As I went about my business in my small music store, I often wondered what my old classmates were doing. It had been five years since the Class of '42 was graduated from dear old Tech High. One day I decided to make it my business to find out about this so I contacted friends in different cities to act as agents for me. From the information supplied by these agents and the newspaper clippings that I managed to secure, I should like to submit the following information to the world at large to show that the graduates of Tech are quite a bit above the average: In Hollywood H. P. Roberts is directing a new picture, You Can't Leave It Behind, starring Sadie Carnes, that glamorous glamor girl who is certain to win the Academy Award this year. It was won last year by Elizabeth Purse: of Twenty-Fifth Century Wolf, owned by Johnny Walsh. FLASH FROM WASHINGTON, D. C.-Senator George Reynolds believes that Congress will pass any day now his bill stating that it should be unlawful for the women to boss the men. He is looking forward to the day when he will once again be his own boss. Peggy Pope is also in Washington. She is secretary to one Marcus Eason Yandle. editor-in-chief of the Washington Host, best known of the Washington newspapers. Charles Wright has racing blood in his veins. Yesterday he was at the Santa Juanita race track, and witnessed a very disappointing race. He says that if his horses don't start doing better, he will have to quit racing for good. From the West Coast comes this story: Jack Holleman, master golfer, who is spending his vacation in Hollywood, wants the directors to stop worrying him. He simply doesn't want to be an actor. Detroit--James Ferguson has been promoted to the position of head engineer for the General Engines Company. He is noted for his keen memory in dealing with statistics. Peggy Simpson has become quite famous because of the hit tunes she has been writing. It is said that her publishers believe that one day one of her songs will reach the top, or pretty near the top, anyway. It has just been announced at Atlantic City that shapely Miss Betty Jean Ridenhour has received the title of Miss America. According to reports the judges were unanimous in their decision. Wall Street, New York-Stocks are the highest in the history of Wall Street. The reason for such prosperity, according to most of the big shots, is that Howard Worrell is directing the buying and selling of stocks in this country. Charlotte, N. C.-Joe Brackett, owner of a chain of Lowland Park Mills, recently celebrated his wedding anniversary. He is happily married and he says that he will stay that way. Broadway--Ann Lewis Helms, voted the zing girl of the year, will be the star attraction for the Seigfried Jollies. Ann says that she will go to the movies after her contract with Seigfried is up. San Francisco-Annie Louise Law's elegantly penned letters daily thrill thousands of people who read her column, Advice to Those Disappointed in Love, which appears in every large newspaper in the country. An agent sends this report from Charlotte: Hazel Wells seemed to like life in a small town so she married and made her home in Charlotte. She has two lovely children, and says that she wouldn't trade places with anyone. Monroe fheadquarters for the Emptier Brush Companyj-It is reported that Ray Selvey turned down a promotion to the office of general manager of the Emptier Brush Company. He says that it is more fun to stick your foot in a door than to sit behind a desk. Oakland, California-Joe Christenbury has just been promoted to the position of foreman in the world's largest aircraft manufacturing corporation. He attributes his success to the mechanical knowledge he received at Tech. Frances Smith, after a long engagement to a former Tech graduate, finally consented to become as one with him. My agent in Charlotte reports that they are still very happy, even after several months of eating canned foods. Los Angeles--Jean Sherrill is doing a ballet number four nights a week at Los Angeles' leading theater, and the rest of the nights she iinds happiness jitterbugging with an old friend at some hot spot. Whing Whang, China--Mirah Robertson and Frances Webb are doing a very humane service for the Chinese. They are enrolled in the Red Cross and are becoming quite skilled in saving lives. Camp Dix-The boys are enjoying life these days. The general in charge just recently married a cute little thing named Le Verne Jones. The general has been in a good mood, and the men hope that things continue to run smoothly between the general and Le Verne. It has just been announced that Norma Moser, former Girl Reserve at Tech, will take charge of all the Girl Scout Troops in the United States. The Associated Press has picked Miriam Smith and Billie Helms as the women athletes of the century. Miami-Dorothy Perry, who has always had a knack for art, is now modeling for James McCoy, who has been called by experts another Raphael. U. S. S. North Carolina-David CSlugD Holmes joined the navy to see the girls, but so far he has seen only the girl framed on the wall over his hammock. CThe oliicers say that he is so bad that every time the ship docks he has to be put into the brig.J Hollywood-Dot Carpenter has been selected by the young men from colleges all over North America as the oomph girl for this year. Vassar College-Believe it or not, but Robert CRomeoj Gray has just been appointed president of Vassar College. He is happy over the whole thing. Immediately after his appoint- ment Gray selected one of his old classmates, Lawson Threatt, to be in charge of the physical education. Lawson is confident that he will produce winning teams. Charlotte-Louise McCall is still a hard working girl. She could get married. but she doesn't know whether she wants to live in Charlotte or Mount Holly. Jacksonville-It was officially announced here today that Lura Simpson is married. She married a soldier from Florida whom she met while the maneuvers were being held in the Carolinas. New York-Thomas Wilson and his band arrived here after a triumphant tour of the country. Wilson has become famous as a trombone player and his band is considered one of the best in America. It was reported from Reno today that Charles Bradshaw has just untied another couple. Charles was such a good lawyer that he was made judge soon after he began his legal career. Because he believes that no one should be unhappy, he sets unhappy men and women free from bad marriages. i Chicago-The manager of the Chicago Bears announced that Lewis Moser would be with the Bears next year. Moser, twice all-American, played with the Charlotte Clippers this year and caused them to win the pennant. Charlotte-It was reported today that William Thomas, once a small fellow, will be the main attraction on the mat card at the Armory Auditorium. A win over the Angel will make him king of wrestlers. Washington-Ruth Dunn and Pauline Mason are operating the library of the Smith- sonian Institute. They both received their training in this kind of work in the library at Tech. The President announced from the White House today that he has appointed a new member to his cabinet. The new member, Ruby Harding, is considered to be one of the most brilliant women of her time. She has done much to prove that a woman is useful to the government too. Brooklyn-Lewis Crump has again been elected the National League's most valuable player. Twice he has held this honor and three times he has been selected the swat king of both major leagues. New York-Carl Hice is singing Beans in the Metropolitan Opera House these days, and the place is packed and jammed every night by people who come especially to hear him. St. Louis-Edwin Deacon Kerr is doing a lot of pitching for the St. Louis Sparrows, but he thinks his place is in the pulpit and is planning to retire from baseball soon. .Indian Trail, North Carolina-Willene Worrell and Doris Brown are living here since their marriage to two wealthy gentlemen. They are entertaining as elaborately as the Astors ever thought of doing. New Orleans-Worth Preslar, master psychologist and philosopher, is spending his vacation here. Mr. Preslar's advice and suggestions make women over the United States happy again. Boston-Margaret Grass, chairman of the Women of the Home, held a meeting here today. These clubs have a tremendous amount of infiuence in the affairs of the American home. Fort Boast-Alice Horne is very popular here. She just finished her third year as hostess. One day someone asked her why she did not get married. She replied: I am now enjoying the company of many good-looking soldiers. Why should I give them all up for one? Sacramento-Juanita Lackey is flying high these days. She is a capable stewardess on the Pan-American Clipper Flag Ship, Quicksilver. Raleigh-Miss Sara Ruth Brown has recently been appointed to the position of adviser for Student Government organizations over the State of North Carolina. Rio de Janeiro-Thomas McCall, a guy that every one at Tech liked very much, is a big success as a good will ambassador to South America. Charlotte-My agent in Charlotte writes that Madge Bright, Ruth Selvey and Hazel Jenkins are teaching in grammar schools.
