We were amazed at the friendliness and hospitality shown to all thirty-eight of us. We were officially initiated to Charlotte Memorial Hospital with a picnic and pa- jama party and lots of wild tales. Then the fun had to be mixed with work as we started our classes. It seemed as if there was a test every day, but we made up for those long hours in class by whooping it up at night. We really kept our proctor busy. Judy Roberts was our president and one of the highlights of the year was the Halloween Carnival. We were so proud when we won 1st prize with our Zigfield Flop. Remember Killian and Stebbins doing Men Are Good For Nothing. Everyone was a little homesick by this time so in November we starting packing our bags to go home for Christmas vacation. The new year opened with more classes and A. M. and P. M. care. We could hardly believe we were finally on the floo r caring for patients. We surely were scared, but we had gained confidence as the day we had been waiting for finally came. No one could have been so happy as we were when we got our white caps and proudly went home for two weeks for a vacation. The summer was fun with lots of tennis and trips to Freedom Park. We really learned what was meant by an eight hour working day. It was all worth the effort as the added prestige came with becoming a junior. At last we seemed to really become a part of the nursing profession as we were given more re- sponsibility than ever before. We only saw each other in class now as we began working 3-11 and night duty. We started going to such specialized services as the operating room, obstetrics and pedi- atrics. Our president this year was LaVonne Stroupe. A big highlight of the year was the Junior-Senior banquet we proudly gave the seniors. The theme was Hitch Your Wagon To A Star. Reverend Sieving was our speaker and the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Most of us stayed for the Spring dance which was held afterward. Everyone looked so pretty. In order to finance this banquet our class spon- sored a Minstrel. It was directed by Dot Bullard and the Interlocutor was Dr. Glenn Pennington. It was lots of fun for us and it was well received by the public. Then the dreaded day came. Our class was parted for the first time in March when nine of us left for Torrance, Pennsylvania. Even though it meant we would not all be together again for nine months, it was an experience never to be forgotten. In the spring of the year our student body elections were held and we were proud to have Becky Killian elected President of the student body. During this eventful junior year more of our girls got their dia- monds and, of course, a few more left us. We began our senior year with only twenty-five students. It was really wonderful to have our class all to- gether again and we immediately began to work on our biggest item of the year — raising funds for publi- cation of the annual. Nancy Coffey held us through this year with numerous money making schemes. The Halloween Carnival was again sponsored by the senior class and Ann Moore helped to make our side show a success with her torchy songs. Then we had the greatest event of the year — another Dixieland Minstrel. We shall always re- member Dr. Glenn Pennington as Mr. Interlocutor. One of the most momentous occasions of the year was our delightful cruise to Hawaii given us by the juniors at the Junior-Senior banquet. History seemed to be repeating itself as the girls ' basketball team again won the city championship. We were a small class but we learned one lesson — Wherever there is harmony a lot can be accomplished. We, the class of ' 55, have many precious memories that will live with us forever and no matter how far away we may be from Charlotte Memorial we shall always strive to live up to the high ideals we all learned as a student here.
