CLASS HISTORY 1949 Spring is here once again and again there is a class preparing to graduate from Charlotte Memorial Hospital. But this class is a special one to us, that is, because it is our class. It was the sunny day of September 6, 1946, that twelve enthusiastic girls began their careers as student nurses. During our first six months we struggled through piles and piles of books and soon learned that we were the most lowly form of lower classmen. Soon too, we acquired the habit of holding doors for our superiors and a clear mental picture of all the do ' s and dont ' s. Exams! Books! Dr. Reid! Lights out! How they frightened us! Three of our classmates left us during those days— but we nine remained, letting nothing discourage us, and the glorious day arrived when we received our reward— the cherished cap, at a quiet, impressive ceremony. Not one of us passed a mirror the next while without turning to look at our snow white cap. By this time, we did not feel quite so conspicuous. We were now officially members of the student body, and proceeded to elect our class officers: Kathryn Woodie, President; Margaret Little, Vice-President; Atha Tucker, Secretary; Eleanor Parsons, Treasurer. Our class sponsor was Miss Faye Estes. Then we began our second year at C. M. H.— classes began again and we were sent to the special services; operating room, obstetrics, pediatrics; and several of us experienced the thrills of the emergency room. A very important event happened during that year— the organizing of Student Government. Our class sponsor left us and we elected Miss Mary Farrar to succeed her. Truly, time does not stand still! We became seniors with the addition of black bands to our cap. During our senior year we have had many unforgettable experiences and events— senior duties, valentine dance, work- ing on the annual, our banquet and dance and the re-organization of our Student Government. It would be impossible to enumerate all our experiences at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Some were interesting, sad, impressive, educational, embarrassing and amusing. But we have learned that it takes a little of each to be a good nurse, which was our high esteemed goal from the beginning. Atha Tucker, Class Historian. Page Twenty-six
