A PAGE FROM MEMORY S BOOK After our graduation from the eighth grade we were ready to begin high school ln the fall of 1947 we enrolled as freshmen There were '74 of us Mr Bennett was principal We elected the followmg officers Billy Glasgow president Billy Duke vice president Roberta Damel secretary Don Doty treasurer and MISS Miller as our class sponsor Lots Sloan was elected candtdate for queen from our class for the Harvest Festival She was placed thrrd and we received S54 from her voters Poor freshmen' lt s a wonder we pulled through that first year with all the initiating and being called green horns but we made it and ended the year with a happy memory The last week of school 69 of us walked to Spout Spring on our picnic and had a wonderful t1me By the time the fall of 1948 came,we were ready to start again There were 69 now Our sponsor president and vice president remained the same but we elected as secretary Erma Dean Berry and as our treasurer Roberta Daniel After being here this long we were fairly well situated and were feelxng at home lt was this year that the Beta Club was organized Seven members of our class became members at this time Mrs Clyde Buckner was elected sponsor Going a little farther on our picnic thls year we went by bus and spent an emoyable afternoon at Montgomery Bell Park By the time 1949 rolled arormd we were feeling rather important We were happy to have 10 students from Van Leer increase our class We changed our treasurer and elected Betty Jean Mc the seniors with a banquet We also presented Pigtatls as our play At the end of the year we went to Shelby Park and ate supper played ball made pictures and went to the show We left school this year ready to be dignified seniors Seniors at last' We were 64 in number at the begtnnmg of the year 1950 We are sorry to have lost 5 students Jane Rector Julia Arm Spann and Adele Kelly marrted Collins Jackson Joined the Marines and Betty Lou Lawson changed schools We also had Murrel Slayden with us for a short time Our officers remained the same except we elected Jean Gilliam as our new secretary Katherine Spann was candidate for Queen from our class for the Harvest Festival Sara Gilmore was crowned Football Queen and Lida Talley was elected DAR Representative Again we had a very successful magazine drive and we also sold Christmas Cards We have had many thrills thxs year We received our rings our invitations and our pictures We presented a play Raggedy Nan We are grateful to the Juniors for entertaining us at the banquet We wish to thank every one who had part in planning the entertainment There are 19 Seniors who are members of the Beta Club We want to thank Mrs Bryant and Miss Bessie for their kind co operation Tuesday May 15 we chartered a bus and went to Lookout Mountains and we were pleased with what we saw and came home with pleasant memories We wish to thank Miss Miller for her constant encouragement and her patience with us these past four years We are also grateful to the rest of our teachers parents friends and class mates for making our graduation possible We are glad to have been a part of you Betty Io Cums Illwain, This year we had a very successful magazine drive, In the spring of 1950 we entertained
